I haven’t knit in over a month. It’s been a hell of a summer and quite frankly, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

New friendships have been made, old relationships have deepened, I got to rediscover the past while moving forward into the new. I’ve been inspired, I’ve been energized, and I’ve been creative on levels I hadn’t been in a while.

And, to be transparent with you, I’ve had back-to-back respiratory infections in the last 3 months, which has slowed down my work on my upcoming patterns. But thanks to these infections, I’ve learned to be more patient and kind with myself.

As for my knitting? Well, it’s been put on hold… for multiple reasons. But that will be for next week’s post 🫣 by @knitricot

Especially when you’ve spent weeks upon weeks writing and calculating it! I’ll admit I get nervous when I try on my new designs for the first time 🫠 by @knitricot

How I use AI as a knitwear designer!

Well, I don’t… and honestly, even if AI was perfect and caused absolutely no harm whatsoever, I wouldn’t use it anyway. I would miss the planning, the analyzing, the constructing, the math and finding fresh inspiration on my own 🌟

Was it a success?

I won’t lie to you, when I tried her on for the first time, I was disappointed. She didn’t turn out the way I was hoping she would.

Don’t get me wrong: I love her fully now. But, the waist isn’t as cinched as I had hoped, the bunching in the back was NOT planned (thanks 🍑), and I didn’t realize it before it was done (although I tried it on, numerous times) but I actually prefer the back neckline to be higher up!

Now, after taking a step back, I know I love her exactly this way. She has a place, especially for those days when I want to be cute while not feeling the most comfortable in my body.

So after a lot of brainstorming, I’m off to make the second version—and I’ve decided to include both versions of the Soleil Tank Top in the pattern 🌻

This cozy lounge cardigan knitting pattern is in its final stages of development!

Up until now, I’ve only called it “Cozy Lounge Cardigan”… I designed it for a friend named Shéri, and although I’m inclined to name the design “Shéri Cardigan”, I’m not sure it’s the best idea considering that the bulk of my patterns at the moment are part of the Chérie Collection 😂

So, do you have any name suggestions?! She’s super squishy, soft and oversized (and will be looking for test knitters in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled!) by @knitricot

I finished knitting my first prototype of the Soleil Tank Top 🌻

There are a few small tweaks that need to be made to the design, but I love her SO much! The picot hems are my everything right now 🫠

In May, the only thing I “made” were these knitting projects! They’re not quite done yet, though 😉

Both sleeves are done on the improvised cardigan! I redid the cuffs by replacing the previous ribbing with a new folded picot hem.

And now I’m working on the Soleil Collection: right now they’re both tank top length, but the brown (@yarnnouveau) will be the dress version, and the dark blue (@exlibrisfibers) is the tank top version. Crossing my fingers that the Soleil Tank will be done in the coming weeks! 🤞🏻

Sleeve cuff before & after ☀️

I’m the kind of knitter who needs two different kinds of projects going on: my main project, and my background project.

This one here is my background project. “Background projects” for me typically consist of mindless knits that I can travel with, that I can pick up whenever without needing to ease back into it. They’re essential when I’m in between projects or in transitional phases of a project (like designing, or blocking and needing to wait)—because if I just want to mindlessly sit down and knit, I already have a project to go back to instead of having to plan something new.

Right now, I’ve put aside the dress pattern to work on its tank top version, but before I can start knitting the tank top, I need to finish grading and writing it 🥸 So, I’ve been back to working on this cardigan!

This cardigan is completelyyy improvised. I have a general idea as to what I’m doing, but for the most part… I have no clue 😂 Which is why I had a sleeve initially done a few months ago, but now I’m doing the cuffs over again because I just now had a different idea… by @knitricot

If you’ve been watching my stories, you’ve seen this one coming together.

For those of you who have been here a while, this pattern design might look familiar to you. Years ago, I designed a boxy ribbed tank top with a wide square neckline, but then the project it was attached to fell apart, and the design was completely put to the side.

This is that pattern, reimagined. Same stitch pattern, same wide square neckline, but this time it’s form-fitted, the neckline sits lower, I swapped the i-cord edge for a picot hem, and I’m making it into a dress.

The original boxy version felt safe, but it wasn’t the garment I actually wanted to make all along… what I wanted was something fitted, something elegant, something I’ve been told a body like mine shouldn’t wear.

Well, here we are. I’m wearing it anyway 😏

The pattern is coming. The dress (and a tank top version) are coming. For now, this is just me, in the middle of the process, showing you what it’s becoming.

I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made on the dress! I’m still undecided on the name for this new design… all I can say is that the combo of the picot hem with the rib makes me think of rays of sunshine ☀️ Do you have any ideas?

Over the last month, I also…

• Made new business cards for my graphic design
• Created a couple of junk journal spreads
• Put together a traveler’s notebook insert
• Created the “April” spread in my bullet journal
• Experimented with tone on tone
• Finished putting together a puzzle with my partner (of an illustration I made for him the month before) and put it on our living room wall
• Continued drawing/painting his car! by @knitricot
