As some of you may have noticed (😉) I kind of fell in love with @projecthailmary. So of course I had to do a cosplay for this year's @fanexpocanada. Inspired by @bluemuffindraws amazing Mary/Blip-A artwork, I decided to design an outfit inspired by the Hail Mary, and walk the cosplay red carpet for the first time!

The top is the Honour Roll Top from @gertie18 (featuring my very first collar and sleeves, because of course con crunch is the exact time to pin your plans in something you've never done before /s). The skirt is a self-drafted circle skirt, because I wanted three pleats to mimic Mary's three fuel tanks, and which totally get lost in the final skirt. 😆

Most of the ribbon and mesh trims are courtesy of a wild binge on the @moodfabrics website, used to echo the railings and other structural elements of Mary's hull. All the fabrics and a few of the ribbons are from @fabricland_western , bless them for their summer sales.

Under the skirt I have a white tulle underskirt as well as my black @mayakern petticoat. The tights are from @snagtights because I had to have starry tights for this outfit and of course when I got the ballet flats from Amazon I had to get them in Petrova Line red. 😁

After two weeks of panic sewing, and a rewatch of the movie in my hotel room while trying to finish the outfit the night before I wanted to wear it, here's the version I wore to the con on Saturday and Sunday!

Well this complicates things.

Started having pain in my wrist at the base of my thumb a couple months ago. Finally went to the doctor about it a couple weeks ago and it looks like De Quervain's tenosynovitis. Not at a stage that requires surgery (yet), but definitely time to take some steps to deal with it. (Also early Carpal Tunnel in my left hand, fun times.)

Should I be knitting? Debatable. Did he explicitly say not to? No. by @knitwit1912

#Fiberuary2026, Day 7: Self Care. Went out this morning to do a few errands but it was fucking cold (felt like -25C with the wind chill) and even with my thermal gloves, my fingertips *hurt*. So instead, fewer errands and home earlier. I did manage to get cinnamon rolls at the bakery downtown though. Now decompressing from a long week with cinnamon roll, tea, figure skating on the TV and knitting in my (very dry) hands.

#Fiberuary2026 Day 4: Work In Progress. I've been cross-stitching for a couple years now, though I only have a few small projects under my belt. So of course I had to jump to doing a full-coverage piece of the Stardew Valley Game map on 18-count Aida. The pattern is 50 pages long.

I think I may need to invest in a floor stand.

For #fiberuary2026 Day 2 (New Beginnings) here's how it started...

...and how it's going. Yes the start was 2.5 years ago, but I really don't need to start another project at the moment. Instead, you get how this one started: sitting on one of the benches in the Van Gogh: Cypresses exhibit at the Met in NYC, casting on the "Gardens of Giverny" shawl by Alina Appasova with my "Starry Night" gradient set from Dragonfly Fibers (leftover from my Cockatoo Brae) and some Lichen and Lace Sock while looking at one of my favorite paintings.

(And yes, I was listening to the song, because I'm that kind of nerd.)

Also for Day 3: Mood, this is my typical evening, sitting on my couch and watching something on YouTube while knitting or doom scrolling. Tonight it's knitting while watching Miles In Transit visit another of the least-used Amtrak stations and its environs, which often leads to seeing some really interesting and unusual places.

Every year I post on the first day of the #fiberuarychallenge and every year I fall off fairly quickly, so who am I to mess with tradition? Hi, I'm Karen (she/her), I've been knitting for 25 years, and have gathered many other fibre hobbies along the way. I'm Acquisitions Coordinator at a university library, I write, play D&D and video games, read and a bunch of other things.

Fuck ICE, free Palestine, fuck Trump, and Trans rights are human rights.

More #latergram pics from my trip to Gravenhurst this last October. I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott right on the bay and spent a lot of time either on the balcony of my room, looking out at the marina and the lake, or in the park next to the hotel that made it feel like you were out in the woods. (Also where I took a few photos of a project I just had to start on location--more on that when I make some progress on it.) I've stayed here a few times (though I hadn't been back for at least 10 years) and while the hotel could do with a refresh, it was still super comfy.

As you can see I had amazing weather for the trip, especially for the day I went on a cruise of Lake Muskoka on the Wenonah II. It's a replica of the steamships that used to ply the lakes, bringing vacationers from the train lines that connected to Toronto and further on the East Coast to the hotels on the lakes. The RMS Segwun, pictured at the dock, is an original steamship that still does tours in the summer months.

Pictures don't do justice to just how big the sky felt out on the lake. It was perfect, though the wind was very cold when we turned to head back to port! Fun fact, the buoy in picture 9 marks the 45th parallel--halfway between the equator and the North Pole.

In all it was a great trip and OMG I want to go back. by @knitwit1912

Shit sucks, so here's a couple videos I took during my getaway to Gravenhurst back in October. I swear, when I walked down to the water in that first pic, smelled the pine needles and the water and heard the water lapping on the rock, it's like something healed deep within me. I'll post photos separately as Instagram doesn't like mixing up the aspect ratio in posts, apparently. by @knitwit1912

I never could have imagined what saying yes to the offer of a room in an AirBnB for Rhinebeck would give me, and who it would bring into my life. ❤️ by @knitwit1912

I'm in Toronto to go to the Christmas One of a Kind Show, so of course I had to knit my TTCowl on the TTC (just don't ask how long ago I bought this kit). by @knitwit1912
