This is a little bit scary, but very exciting thing for me to post about. I talked to ChatGPT, asking it to help me come up with the right words to say, but using Ai didn’t feel quite right for the message I want send. Everything I create is made slowly, and the beauty I find in it is the fact that it’s done by hand. So here goes, just me and my very human thoughts.

For as long as I can remember I’ve had a creative side gig of some sort while also working full time and raising my children. This allows me the joy and privilege of helping to support my family while also fulfilling my inner need to create. I’ve also always enjoyed an array of art forms, but feeling like I need to narrow my business to one specific thing in order to “find my niche” or whatever everyone online says you have to do. Feeling a bit boxed in, I continue to create all the things I want to anyway, while only posting about the one specific thing I decided my focus should be on, afraid I’ll be “too much” if I share everything I actually want to, eventually switching things up and the cycle continues. Well, that is, until today.

I’m thrilled to announce that Everly Calligraphy is now @knotjustbasic aka KJB Designs. This feels more fun and a lot more ‘me’ (literally)! The goal is that I can grow with this name and finally share all the work I’m so proud of.

So what can you expect to see here moving forward?
This page will still be home to the calligraphy and engraving you’ve known me for. It’s also becoming a home for my wallpaper and fabric designs that have been available on Spoonflower for years as well as announcements for new designs I’ll be adding seasonally, original needlepoint designs, hand painted needlepoint canvases, and hopefully hundreds of other things made by hand that I’ve yet to discover.

I have a couple collaborations in the works and I can’t wait to show you what we’re cooking up!

A few weeks ago, I entered a giveaway put on by @lowcountryporchco @maggiemcguirerealtor @coastal_connies and @rambler_coffee (my girls!🤍) and somehow WON an entire fall porch styling!!

Lowcountry Porch Co. absolutely knocked it out of the park.🧡 Every little detail is so thoughtfully placed. She seriously couldn’t have done a better job and I couldn’t love it more!

Between work, kids events, more work, and all the things we’ve had going on lately I have not even had time to think about any fall decorating this year. So coming home today to a cozy pumpkin patch on my porch is everything I didn’t realize we needed. 🧡

A HUGE thank you to @lowcountryporchco for sharing your talent and making our home feel extra special this season. I’m beyond grateful and even more excited to share the work of another talented local business! 🧡🎃🧡

A little behind the scenes of one of the many things I’ve been up to lately! 🤍

One of the best parts of stepping into the needlepoint world has been the wonderful women I’ve met along the way.

I’ve recently had the opportunity to hand-paint needlepoint belts and dog collars for Jenna at @gimmedesignstudio and I just have to brag on her for a minute!

Not only is Jenna an absolute joy to work with, but she’s also intentional about supporting local artists and keeping her canvas painting work within the Charleston community. She’s generous with her knowledge, encouraging of other women, and truly the definition of a girls’ girl. 🤍

And if you make it to the end of the video, you’ll get a little peek at the custom belt she helped me design for Derek. Just another example of her kindness!

There’s something really special about small businesses supporting other small businesses, and I’m so grateful to be a little part of what she’s building.

Happy Finish Friday! 🤍 Part one of my needlepoint diary series where I’m sharing everything I’ve capital F - Finished on my own! {there’s several WIPs still in the works! 🤣} Swipe to see them all in order from most recent to my very first Finish! As you can see, I’ve improved slightly each time. I’m sooooo proud of this little light house bag tag I finished this morning! It’s my best yet. ☺️ By the way, these are all my own designs! And every step of the process - designing, canvas painting, stitching, and finishing - I completed myself. So each one has a special place in my heart. 🤍 Most of these were gifts (besides the bee because I wasn’t satisfied with the the way the cording came out) so, thank goodness for pictures! The little details are never really about the details. 🤍

They’re about creating the moment when guests walk into a room and immediately know they’re somewhere special.

Every little detail for this beautiful Charleston wedding was hand picked by the bride with so much care, and seeing it all come together like this is exactly why I love what I do and I’m so honored to contribute.
