This conversation emerged from the necessity to speak about A Percussion Piece for Two Thousand and Nine Players by Maxim Tyminko, a work whose title remains deliberately open and constantly changing. The number in the title corresponds to the number of officially recognized political prisoners in Belarus at the moment when the artist began developing the work in 2020. As this number continues to change, the title changes with it, reflecting the ongoing reality of repression.
A Percussion Piece is a large-scale participatory performance, organized and produced by @antiwarcoalition.art, that will take place on 19 September 2026 at NDSM-Werf in Amsterdam @ndsm , engaging 1200 people —Amsterdam residents and guests— who will become participants for thirty minutes, co-creating the work together. Sound in this work becomes a way to create presence and solidarity: inspired by the tradition of cacerolazo, a grassroot protest movement widely spread in Chile and Latin America, participants are invited to bring their own handmade instruments, pots, and rattles to create a shared act of making noise. The performance transforms the site of the wharf into an active arena where collective action, creative freedom, and the cityscape of Amsterdam converge.

A residency can be considered officially opened not only when your desk is installed, but when your desk begins to be shaped and mapped by your presence.

Two weeks have already passed in the wonderful @delfinafdn alongside my fellow residents.

There is so much to explore, yet time is running at an impossible speed.

My residency is kindly supported by the @uabritish by @kochunia33

This publication follows the international art project Sense of Safety, which took place at YermilovCentre @yermilovcentre in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and across Europe through an open network of cross-institutional events entitled Bridges of Solidarity. Realized just 30 km from the Russian border, in close proximity to the front line, the project resisted the reproduction of hackneyed images of war and ruins. Instead, it asserted creation as a form of resilience, transforming a site of war into one of cultural growth.

Emerging from an inherently unsafe environment, the project proposed rethinking safety as an achievement of civilization that can be easily undone—one of the defining global challenges of our time. Extending these reflections, the publication explores the possibilities of art in a time of war and its capacity to foster care and solidarity. By featuring new texts from contributors who experienced the project both on site and from afar, the publication invites readers to reconsider what safety means today—individually and collectively—and how art can serve as a cohesive force in a fragmented world. by @kochunia33

WORKSHOP PART II
In the second part of Curatorial Lessons 2026, we focused on site specificity together with Tatiana Kochubinska @kochunia33 and discussed the text from Miwon Kwon „One Place After Another: Site-Specific Art and Locational Identity“.
We explored how places carry histories, relationships, conflicts and traces; and how careful observation can become the starting point for a curatorial idea. What do you notice in Graz, what remains unnoticed? Who uses a space, who doesn‘t? What traces, boundaries, histories and relationships can you discover?

As part of the Public Lecture, @antiwarcoalition.art was introduced as an international network connecting artists, researchers and cultural practitioners working around war, repression, resistance and solidarity. by @kochunia33

It was a very special moment yesterday. And when you work so much on a thing, it is really hard to reflect on it immediately. We would definitely need time to think about what happened.

One and a half years of work for a short and special moment of togetherness…

For me, everything happened in no way as I could have imagined it. And it was not only about sound. In my thinking of A Percussion Piece, I would have imagined dissolving myself in a collective sound… But now I’m doubtful if I heard anything at all being inside.

But what struck me a lot, and something I could have never envisioned, was when I looked at the sky from inside the mask.

It was something painful and beautiful, as if you were looking from a cell at the sky, which seemed to be free and shared before. But the sky is not shared. It can be shared, but it can also be restricted…

Thanks @maxim.tyminko to this work, and to your thinking behind it, and our experiences and further thinking that so many people have gained… by @kochunia33

A studio visit with Tatiana Kochubinskaya, an extraordinary Ukrainian curator currently on a @britishcouncil fellowship in residence at @delfinafdn

I first met Tatiana at Delfina’s recent open house, where she showed artwork alongside her curatorial research. I loved that intermingling of art, curation, convening and production, something I recognise in my own work, and in lineages such as the Artist Placement Group and @eprjcts.

In the studio, we spoke about landscape, memory, scarring and governance. Tatiana has recently been working with the idea of guilty landscapes, a phrase that carries profound weight in relation to eastern Ukraine, where much of her current research is situated. It also resonated deeply with my own interest in the marks left on land by power, extraction, infrastructure and policy.

We spoke about art, policy and government, including my work bringing artists into policy. What might these relations mean across different geographies, from Ukraine to the US to the UK? And how do they shift under different political conditions, including wartime, institutional instability and changing forms of government?

Tatiana’s experience brings a whole new light to my work in this field.

I was especially moved by Tatiana’s work with @antiwarcoalition.art and @zkmkarlsruhe on the Sense of Safety publication.

As always in a studio visit, the conversation found its own unexpected object: a set of delicate cyanotype climate change maps printed on glass, which I produced back in 2017. The process partly failed. The data washed out. The information became barely visible. And somehow, that made them more powerful.

Thank you @kochunia33 for visiting the studio in Walthamstow. by @kochunia33
