my eldest brother was shot and killed exactly sixteen days ago. i can say i’m upset, and in fact, i’m enraged. but it won’t do anything. sitting quiet and allowing just the “grown-ups” have their own at it leaves you so hopeless. i have to at least say something, because i care. police brutality in new jersey has been at its highest within a year or so, and it’s disgusting. there’s not enough effort put into cases regarding innocent black men or women. it’s not talked about widely enough. you don’t address it properly until it’s your own. it’s your own brother, it’s your own sister, or just your own family member, their lives given over to the hands of the typical white man who shouldn’t be behind a gun. who shouldn’t be within the government. this is someone who has watched me grow up, we’ve laughed together, spent so many memories i will never forget. like walking together to golden krust, or even the time when we went walking in the forest in our backyard, middle of winter, and our parents were upset we left without telling them. 2012. please don’t let him turn into another statistic, or be forgotten. his death is something that he did not deserve, and it’s not something i’m saying just because he’s my brother. junior was the most sweetest person despite what life had for him. no matter how many loopholes he was put into, he mended his way out. he was a survivor, a warrior. he came to america for more freedom and yet he was still killed unprovoked. this is among one of many stories about black people getting killed unrightfully. i want to see my brothers murderer face some type of consequence. please don’t let another man roam free just because. do what you can, sign petitions, spread the word. #justiceformauricegordon, #blacklivesmatter. by @kogalsocks
