Last week we dropped our single Ambient: Music For Global Warming.

For this single we looked a bit deeper into the origins of the Ambient genre: the Brian Eno album Ambient: Music for Airports. The idea behind this album was that ambient music could create a soundscape for an airport terminal, one that would soften the busy, tense atmosphere inherent in such a place. Eno envisioned the music as being listenable in a variety of ways; it should be as easy to ignore as it is engaging to listen to.

With this in mind we started creating an ambient soundscape for our current environment. In this process we were drawn toward making an alarming soundtrack fitting for a warming world, as if the changing environment we now live in quietly asks for an ambient piece that’s less easy to ignore.

The video represents a visualisation of this alarming soundtrack: rising water levels reaching their limits and overflowing, with shifting colors echoing heat maps often used to visualize the impact of climate change. 🌡️

Ambient: Music For Global Warming

In the spirit of @brianeno ’s Ambient Music For… series, we asked ourselves: what kind of environment are we in right now, and how would ambient music sound for that?

In this time of global warming, Ambient: Music For Global Warming became our response — an alarming soundscape for a warming world. 🌡️

🌀 Shifting Paths 🌀

A song about two paths slowly changing direction, represented by a guitar and a synth.

The dancing blue shapes you see are an analog visualization of the soundwaves from each track. To create this, each track was played through a speaker with a small mirror placed in front of it. The vibrations from the soundwaves made the mirror move, and by pointing a laser beam at it, these mesmerizing shapes came to life.

No digital algorithms—just pure physics. It’s nature in motion. 🌿
