This weekend is the culmination of a gargantuan effort to put on a production of @bright.sheng's #opera Dream of the Red Chamber with @umnopera at @umnmusic. Two more performances left at #tedmannconcerthall. For this, I wore many hats, including assistant conductor, choir director, vocal coach, violist, and even #guqin. This excerpt is from the conclusion of the opera (Act 2, Scene 6). Most (if not all) guqin players would recognize this as a slightly altered adaptation of #秋风词. You can see a tiny bit of the stage setup in the background here. #hongloumeng #红楼梦 #universityofminnesota #古琴 by @kongming819

It's been a good long while since I've had any time with the guqin, but I'm always happy when I do find some quality time to spend. Here is the lesser-performed version of Meihua Sannong #梅花三弄 (Three Repetitions of "Plum Blossoms"), from the Jiaoan Qinpu #蕉庵琴谱 (Jiaoan Qin Handbook), as popularized by Zhang Ziqian 张子谦. #chinesemusic #中国音乐 #古典音乐 by @kongming819

A few photos from the concert this past weekend. Great music was made with some great musicians, alongside moving and heartfelt stories about mental health journeys. This was our way of celebrating mental health awareness month!
.
Also happy to report that members of NAMI Jacksonville greatly enjoyed the concert! Huge shoutout to them for their partnership, to the musicians for their lovely musicmaking, and of course to all of our donors! taken in JU Terry Concert Hall by @kongming819
