Today, on World Mental Health Day, we are reminded that a healthy workplace is about more than the work we do. It is also about how we treat, support and look after one another.

Throughout his long reign, His Majesty King Harald V dedicated his life to serving Norway and its people.

A career path does not always follow a straight line.

After graduating in civil engineering, Anders faced a challenging job market. Instead of giving up, he chose a new direction. Today, he combines work at KONGSBERG with a master's degree in Systems Engineering, turning curiosity into a career in technology.

Meet THEIA!

This summer, the THEIA team has been exploring technologies that support the future of autonomous and unmanned systems.

Working with simulation, visualization and software development, the students have been contributing to solutions that help test, analyze and operate unmanned vehicles in virtual environments before they are deployed in the real world. Throughout the summer, they have had the opportunity to work hands-on with technologies and workflows used in real development projects.

"It doesn't feel like a project created just to keep us busy for the summer. It's connected to what the departments are actually working on, so it feels like we're contributing to something real."

By working closely across disciplines, the team has gained firsthand experience of what it means to take ownership, solve complex challenges and contribute in a professional environment.

Meet Lone Wolf!

As part of this year's summer programme, the Lone Wolf team has spent the summer exploring autonomous technologies, software integration and mechanical design through a project driven by experimentation, testing and collaboration.

Working across disciplines, the students have been given the opportunity to develop and test solutions using professional equipment and technologies, while taking ownership of both the process and the direction of the project.

Rather than following a predefined solution, the team has been encouraged to explore different approaches, learn through testing and discover what works in practice.

"Being surrounded by mentors and colleagues with so much knowledge to share has been incredible."

Throughout the summer, the students have worked closely together to connect software and hardware into a functioning system. The project has highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, showing how different perspectives and areas of expertise contribute to solving complex challenges.

For KONGSBERG, Lone Wolf is an opportunity to bring together students from different disciplines and challenge them to solve real technical problems in a collaborative environment. Meet FORGE & PULSE!

New to this year's summer programme, FORGE and PULSE give students the opportunity to explore different parts of the journey from product development to industrialization.

While PULSE focuses on building a supply chain platform and explores how AI can make the supply chain more efficient, FORGE explores how Lone Wolfs product can be manufactured efficiently through production planning, process optimization and operations.

Rather than following a predefined roadmap, the students have been given the freedom to shape their own approach and find solutions along the way.

"We were given a goal but figuring out how to get there was up to us."

Working closely across disciplines, the teams have spent the summer navigating challenges related to production flow, optimization and collaboration – gaining firsthand experience of how theory is translated into practice.

Meet Mini Guardian!

The summer students behind the project Mini Guardian are developing a scaled-down model inspired by KONGSBERG's NASAMS air defence system.

This summer project gives students the opportunity to work across different disciplines while contributing to a larger system designed to detect, classify and engage airborne objects.

The coloured balloons seen in the test environment represent different object categories — friend, foe and unknown. By using sensors and cameras, Mini Guardian must identify the balloons, make the correct classification and respond accordingly.

Students highlight the variety of challenges, as well as the opportunity to explore different areas and see technologies and components come together, as some of the most rewarding aspects of the project.

"There are many small highlights along the way. Every time you solve a challenge or get something working, it gives you a real sense of accomplishment."

By combining learning, responsibility and teamwork, Mini Guardian offers a glimpse into how advanced technology is developed at KONGSBERG — and how students can contribute from day one.
