little blue heron 🥹
fact- I cannot remember if I’ve put this fact before, but they have an incredible color transformation and can often be completely white as a juvenile and slowly transition to blue, so if you see a white heron with cute blue spots, it’s probably a growing little blue heron!

love these guys and their bald heads haha!

Sandhill crane; in Florida this is a threatened species. Why? Unfortunately, development has taken away a lot of vital habitat, including marshes and prairies. Also, when people feed them human food, they often struggle with health because it’s not good for their bodies or for their behavioral development. Let’s work together to keep these beautiful dinosaurs safe ❤️🩶
Fact: they rub dirt on themselves, creating a brownish color, to camouflage!! So sandhill cranes may look more brown in different areas.

Love these herons 💛🖤
fact: they are crepuscular, meaning they’re most active at dusk and dawn- so that’s often the very best time to find em!!

indian peafowl- peacock 🦚
fact- though I found him in florida, they are not native here! peafowl (males called peacocks and females called peahens) are native to southeast asia and central africa! however there are some wild populations in florida due to introduction.

this bird friend was found a little bit north of its previous usual range!!! but that is no longer completely out of the ordinary, because their range has been expanding greatly. why? because they primarily thrive in plains, but due to increased land clearing for agriculture, they are searching for new habitats.
fact- they are most closely related to falcons; however, they primarily eat carrion!

purple gallinule- my favorite thing about seeing a purple gallinule is the beautiful way the sun reflects on them and shows so many colors!!!
fact: they are omnivores so they both eat flowers, as well as small insects and even frogs!
