My friend and I were at the Roy Ayers concert in Camden NJ Summer 1997 where he just got through rockin' it for 3 hours, so my friend told me to go knock on his dressing room door after the concert for a pic lol. So I did and out he came. Just like that πŸ˜† Told him I was one of his biggest fans and.."oh so you want a picture?" he asked and I said "yes, sure"! My friend took the pic & the rest is history πŸ™ŒπŸΎ No this pic is not AI'd 🀣

Remembering my father, the late Everette Lee Scott, Sr, born on this date 92 years ago in Lenoir, North Carolina as the only son & oldest child of my late grandparents, Richard Everett Scott and Lucy Mae Norwood πŸŽ‚πŸ™πŸΎπŸ•ŠοΈβ™πŸΉ

He accomplished a lot in his life.

He received his B.S. degree in 1954 at North Carolina College for Negroes (now North Carolina Central University) in Durham, NC and his Masters of Ed. in 1968 - attended first at the University of Bridgeport, then finished at Temple University.

He taught Physical Education/Health as well Biology for a combined 35 years (1954-56 in NC, 1959-1993 in the Philadelphia School District)

He proudly served his country in the Army as a Specialist (SP-4) for 2 years (1956-58). As a matter of fact, while stationed at Fort Benning, GA, a young future-HOF running back, who'd just gotten drafted by the Cleveland Browns, by the name of Jim Brown (RIP), was in his Company A πŸ™πŸΎπŸ•ŠοΈ

He was the provider, a man's man, caring, loved his family, loved children and as was a wealth of knowledge. He was a multi-sport athlete in HS & college (Football, Basketball, Baseball, Track & Field) and coached Basketball, Track/Field and Gymnastics during his professional life.

As a black man from the Jim Crow South, he experienced & endured a lot. From the Great Depression and civil rights to, along with my mother, making history as part of the 2nd generation-Great Migration of blacks, who migrated to the North & West, seeking freedom and better employment opportunities. But he also had a unique experience growing up in the Appalachian South as well, where the music, cuisine & resources was very different from the lowlands, where farming was more plentifu.l

He was a son, brother, uncle, husband, grandfather and best of all, the best father anyone could ask for. My brothers and I miss him dearly. Happy Heavenly Birthday dad πŸ™πŸΎπŸ•ŠοΈπŸŽ‚ taken in Lenoir, North Carolina by @kool_ski1971

Rest in peace to Mark Howard James aka The 45 King. B.10/16/1961, The Bronx, NY D.10/19/2023, New Jersey

One of the most legendary producer, remixer, digger and DJ but yet understated but unique in his massive collection of 45's particularly breaks. Many of them true old school breaks.

He came along during the golden era of Hip-Hop from the mid-1980's through the mid-1990's, where he along with DJ Marley Marl, DJ Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Hitman Howie Tee, Ultramagnetic MC's, DJ Prince Paul (from Stetsasonic), D.I.T.C., to a name of a few, influenced so many like myself to hunt for breaks & become a serious vinyl collector.

Whether it had horn sections, guitar riffs, bass riffs, percussion or simply the drum break, Mark had it and he put most of it on display through his early production work, mainly with The Flavor Unit, shown here from my own personal collection from 1988-1993.

But what was unique about these break albums was that Mark introduced house instrumentals interspersed with hip hop beats very early in the game. He was also nice on the mic too. That never went unnoticed to me.

Thank you Mark for blessing us with your humor, creativity and musical talents of all these years. You will be sorely missed πŸ™πŸΎπŸ•ŠοΈπŸŒΉβ™ŽπŸŽΆπŸŽ›οΈπŸŽšοΈ by @kool_ski1971

Happy Heavenly Birthday to my mother, the late Mrs. Barbara Jeanne Scott (née Gordon). She was born on this day in 10/19/1937 to the late William Buies and Mary Jane (Leak) Gordon in Cordova, Richmond County, North Carolina (I meant to have done a bday tribute for her last year so I made it up to her this year with a nice extra collage of pics) I miss your intelligence, beauty, quick wit, friendship, kindness, generosity, your love for the arts and love for family. Rest well πŸ™πŸΎπŸŒΉπŸ•ŠοΈπŸŽ‚β™Žβš–οΈ

(**Disclaimer: I was hesitant in posting this on IG given today's violent climate on guns but this is not the original. It had been photoshopped a few years ago. It's a parody based on the high academic HS we attended. I lost my original version probably a couple of years after this photo was taken 😟. Again, in no way does this photo represent us in real life. Most of were actually holding up money**)

The Central High School Of Philadelphia Senior Prom June 1989

If you're looking for me, I'm on the top row, 3rd from the left. To my left, is the late Wayne Dunn. Continue to rest well brotha πŸ™πŸΎπŸŒΉπŸ•ŠοΈ Although I haven't seen everyone in years, to the best of my knowledge, everyone else pictured is alive and (doing) well πŸ’ͺ🏾

So we stepped away from our dates to gather for the combined crazy macked-out posse photoshoot. Classic late 80's Philly: from the fly Cazal/Porsche frames to the hi-tape/box hairstyles, gold, flashing cash to the poses, even the yelling for no reason πŸ˜†

Shout-out to Hall H* International, the Second Floor Posse 🀣 and the great class of 248 of CHS! πŸ™ŒπŸΎπŸŽ“πŸŽ‰ taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @kool_ski1971

Happy Holidays to my friends, my actual family, my TMS Fam 🐝 & the Usual Suspects! Hope you are having a festive & safe time with family. Let's take a trip down memory lane, shall we:

I remember this pic like it was yesterday. This is my older brother, Everette, Jr., who was 16, and yours truly, at age 6, "photo bombing" missing teeth & all πŸ˜†, posing with one of the greatest gifts he could possibly get from our parents: a bass guitar on this date in 1977 🎸🎼

Although he didn't play in a band, he was somewhat an accomplished singer with the Phila. Boys Choir from 1971-74 and, around 1976, wanted to get into bass playing.

During this period of '75-'78, he was heavy into that funk/jazz-funk/fusion/boogie hybrid, like: EW&F, The Brothers Johnson, The Blackbyrds, Pleasure, Roy Ayers Ubiquity, Mandrill, Slave, Heatwave, Pat Metheny, Stanley Clarke (who coincidentally lived in the next block over from us from 1972-75 & was HS classmates with our cousin)/Return to Forever, along with many, many others, were amongst his favorite artists as a teenager

By this point, some of the well-known bass riffs he could play (still plays) are, Slaves' "Slide", Roy Ayers Ubiquity's "Running Away" & Heatwave's "Groove Line" taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @kool_ski1971
