Wow! I was absolutely blown away after walking through one of Koos Design’s latest projects. From the moment they welcomed me into the space, it was clear I was stepping into something special. The way they approach every detail—from the layout and finishes to the flow and functionality—is nothing short of masterful. Their creativity, professionalism, and deep understanding of hospitality design blew me away. You can truly feel the intentionality behind every design decision. They’re not just designing spaces—they’re crafting experiences.

One of those experiences is Shutters on King—a stunning new restaurant coming to downtown Leesburg, and a project I’m so excited to be able to share. Set in the historic 1899 Black Shutter building, this Georgian Revival space is being transformed into a destination that honors the past while embracing fresh, modern hospitality.

Koos Design’s signature style shines in every corner—from the layered textures and intimate dining spaces to the vibrant bar and expansive patios. This project is going to be phenomenal, and I can’t wait for the community to see it come to life.

Designed for the experience, down to the last detail.

Historic architecture meets a darker, more refined hospitality palette. Original brick, rich wood tones, custom millwork, patterned tile and layers of warm lighting.

A space that feels established, inviting, and distinctly its own.

Meet the team behind Koos Design 🤍

We’re Danielle + Caitlin. Longtime friends, design-school classmates, and the duo behind Koos Design.

Danielle leads the creative vision, bringing each space to life through concept development, renderings, and material selections. Caitlin is the detail-driven force behind the scenes, keeping the technical, logistical, and procurement side of every project moving.

Different strengths, one shared obsession: creating spaces that feel intentional, memorable, and anything but expected.

As Koos continues to grow into the hospitality world, we’re excited to keep designing the restaurants, bars, hotels, and gathering spaces that make you want to stay awhile.

Nice to meet you, we’re glad you’re here. 🥂

Some pieces are more than decor, they tell the story of the building itself.

While designing Shutters on King at 102 S. King Street in historic Leesburg, preserving pieces of the property’s past was an important part of the design.

By the mid-1910s, the building was home to H.A. Thompson and his wife, Hannah, while also serving as the headquarters of the Thompson-Potter X-Ray Company, a manufacturer of some of the earliest X-ray and electrotherapy equipment.

This original medical-electrical cabinet was made right here in the building over a century ago. Today, it remains exactly where it belongs, incorporated into the restaurant as a piece of its history rather than simply decoration.

We love designing spaces that feel new without forgetting what came before them.

A restaurant booth may look simple, but there’s a lot happening behind the scenes.

Every detail - from the seat and table height to the upholstery, lighting, spacing, traffic flow, and even where an outlet lands, affects how the space looks, feels, and functions.

Because restaurant design isn’t just about creating a beautiful space. It’s about designing an experience that works just as well for the guest as it does for the people operating it.

The smallest details can make the biggest difference. by @koosdesign
