I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a memorable Father’s Day dinner at @matsumotojapanese that I was lucky enough to win.

Matsumoto Japanese Restaurant is located in Brunswick East at 48 Lygon Street. The restaurant was well lit in the evening and easy to find.

Our family, joined by the kids for the celebration, enjoyed a superb Matsumoto Dinner Set that left us all really delighted. The whole atmosphere was warm and cheerful, simply pleasing.

The evening began with a warm welcome and promptly served Miso Soup, rich in flavour and perfect for setting the tone. The Sushi and Sashimi, featuring fresh tuna and salmon served on spectacular wooden boat, were exquisite- each bite showcasing the quality and freshness Matsumoto is known for. The Kaiso Salad, a delightful Japanese seaweed concoction, was refreshingly crisp and flavourful.

Next, the Gyoza, with their succulent pork and cabbage filling, were cooked to perfection, offering a satisfying crunch with each bite. The Namakaki, fresh oysters, were a highlight - smooth and briny, they captured the essence of the ocean.

The Tempura, featuring prawn and vegetables, was light and airy, with a golden, crisp batter that complemented the tender seafood and veggies. A special treat was the table-top cooking experience with seafood yosenabe, which we truly enjoyed together. Served with perfectly cooked rice, it was both hearty and flavourful.

To finish, we indulged in fresh fruits and creamy green tea ice cream, followed by coffee and Japanese tea, rounding off the meal beautifully. The attentive and caring staff ensured we had everything we needed, making the evening seamless and enjoyable. Matsumoto Japanese Restaurant delivers an exceptional dining experience, and I highly recommend it for any special occasion.

Brunswick East is truly a food paradise - and Matsumoto is testament to the fresh food passion that Melbourne is known universally.
