Today's walk. I started my morning early meeting @tega1774 for coffee at @cariboucoffee We caught up on all the things. I then let the walk lead me in what directions I went. I continue to love being surprised and discovering new to me things in an area that I have known for over 35 years now. I also continue to be impressed with how many people have been hired to direct traffic throughout all the downtown construction. Lots of orange vest employees. It makes such a difference. by @korytellers

Yesterday's walk. I decided to venture out in a direction I hadn't gone on before. Right at the beginning of the walk I ended up crossing a busy intersection with a lovely woman, whose name I learned was Maria. We had a lovely chat for about 20 minutes while we walked together. She had retired from Mayo about 2 years ago, she's 75 years old, from the DC area originally, had lived in Nashville for a few years. Thinking about moving south again, but doesn't want to move away from receiving health care from Mayo. We both talked about how we know Mayo isn't perfect, but when you are away from it, you realize how it just isn't the same at other places. After that chat with Maria I ventured on to Cascade Lake Park which is a lake I have driven past so many times on Highway 14, but this is the first time I've walked by it. I was really surprised by how big and peaceful it is. by @korytellers

Last night I walked to church, it was orientation for the Wednesday youth group nights that I am going to be helping at. It's a walk I've done numerous times now but fun to see it in the dark. And great to see how well lit the construction tunnels are at night. Also found a fun friend towards the end.😁 by @korytellers

On today's walk I decided to go down and walk along the river. It brought back some fun memories of when the girls were little and we'd drive the 20 minutes to a couple of different playgrounds that were close to the Riverwalk and usually walk for a little after all the fun on the playgrounds. I'm already starting to get excited about what I'll explore and share when it gets colder-the skyways and subways of the Mayo Clinic.😊 by @korytellers

Last Sunday I decided to walk to church where Claire would meet me and we would go to the service together.😊

One thing that is always spinning around in my brain during all these walks of mine is how much I want my friends to know that if you, or someone you love or care about, or even if it's someone you don't love, but you know them😁. If anyone, ANYONE, has to come to Rochester to receive care at the Mayo Clinic, and you want/need recommendations for places to stay or eat, need help navigating around downtown, would like to have someone meet you for a coffee or meal, need something brought to you, or if you just need someone to sit with you, please know that you can always reach out to me. Always.

@mrburkemath can confirm that I do indeed mean every word of that.😊 I also saw first hand with my dad what it's like to be an out of state Mayo Patient, and will always be grateful for the care he received here, and that my brother and I were here whenever he came for his appointments. I also love being able to learn more about the behind the scenes from Claire in her PhD program. I also love being out on my walks observing and noticing all the ins and outs of the "life" of the Mayo Clinic and downtown Rochester. I know it's not perfect, because nothing is, but to me it is truly magical, amazing, and I am seeing so much good. I just want to try to add to that goodness to anyone that needs to come for a visit.

So, if I find out you are here for an appointment, and you didn't tell me, get ready for me to get all Jersey on you. You can take the girl out of Jersey...😜 by @korytellers

On David's first day of work, last Monday, I was lucky enough to be able to meet him for lunch. This restaurant, The Union, was not in Dodge Center when we lived here. I have heard all sorts of wonderful things about it though while we were living in Tennessee. It definitely lived up to all the hype! It is absolutely gorgeous, the food was delicious and the staff was over the top friendly! The Raspberry bread pudding was a perfect dessert after dinner. I'm happy to meet up with anyone and everyone that would like to plan a breakfast/lunch/coffee date there.😁

The pictures aren't necessarily the best pictures, I continue to work really hard at not looking like a crazy lady taking pictures of all the things every time I go somewhere.😉 by @korytellers

I feel like with all the sharing I am doing about Rochester/SE Minnesota I should do a little geography lesson for those not familiar with the area. Because I know from experience Geography can be hard.😁

We currently live in Rochester, which is in the SE corner of Minnesota. The Twin Cities-Minneapolis, St. Paul and all the suburbs, are about an hour north of us. Before we moved to Tennessee, we lived in Dodge Center which is about 20 miles west of Rochester. Dodge Center is where David's company is based. Rochester has a population of about 124,000 people, Dodge Center has a population of about 2700 people. So Rochester was the "big city" we'd drive to when shopping.

In the second map you can also see where Decorah, IA is located. That is about 70 miles south of us, and it's a quick 70 miles unless you get stuck behind a tractor along the way.😁

Even though we were in Rochester often when we lived here before I am having so much fun discovering new to me areas, driving on roads I've never driven on before, and just seeing something that was so familiar to me with brand new eyes.

I don't recommend to anyone moving as many times as we have over the past 7 years, but I do recommend trying to discover or rediscover as much as you can about where you live. Get out and explore by walking around as much as you can, explore local shops and businesses, and just look at it all with fresh eyes. Because there is a good chance it will help you love where you live even more.😊 by @korytellers

Another walk I took last week was a 3.5 mile walk around Pill Hill, which is a historic Rochester neighborhood(you can learn more information about it in the last picture). It's the neighborhood I look over every time I sit out on our patio. I saw 2 Norwegian flags on my walk (it was on a day right after the King of Norway passed away), a wild turkey, lots of signage, and I even got a very friendly wave and hello from a toddler I walked by that was sitting in his front yard with his mom. Looking forward to exploring more of Pill Hill on plenty of more walks this fall. taken in Rochester, Minnesota by @korytellers

Last Saturday David and I got to walk to Rochester's annual Greek Fest. It was a busy event with long lines for both people and the drive thru. Our dinner and dessert were delicious, a fun night out.😊 by @korytellers

Another walk I did last week was a 4.02 mile walk on the Douglas Trail. I was able to park my car at Claire's townhouse and get on the trail from there. I felt a little bit like Snow White with all of the monarch butterflies flying around so closely to me (if you look carefully you may see them in the videos I took. One of these days I will walk the entire length of the trail.😊 taken in Douglas Trail by @korytellers

Trying to catch up on posting all my walks. Hard to limit the pictures to just 20, I took many more than that. There is a lot of construction going on in downtown Rochester, but I continue to be impressed with how well thought out the planning appears to be. I know the locals are frustrated with it all, but as someone looking at it with new eyes, it is much better than anything I have seen over the past couple of years. taken in Rochester, Minnesota by @korytellers

I've been a little busy with getting settled in that I have gotten off track with posting, and this stop on my "Goodbye Knoxville" Tour had to be documented. I started seeing @weloveacne way back when we first moved here and she was SkinCara. I like to say I am a true OG for her.😊 I have loved being able to watcher her over the years find success as a young woman business owner, as well as loved becoming her friend. I know her well enough to know exactly what I needed to bring as her goodbye gift.😁 She surprised me with a beautiful candle she made herself with the help of her mad thrifting skills.😁 Truly grateful to know Cara all 7 years I was in Knoxville.🥰 by @korytellers
