I can finally say i’m 1 month post op from my 3rd and hopefully last surgery. These last 2 1/2 years have been full of plenty of ups and downs. Countless doctor’s appointments and plenty of tests. Whether those appointments lead to absolutely no where, or tests that come back negative, leaving me right back at the start. This phase in life has not only taught me to have a new perspective on life but to never take anything for granted.
Through every failed test came a new one. 3 surgeries, 8 x-rays, 7 MRIs, 3 compartment testings, 5 EMGs, 1 brain wave study, 2 vascular artery testings, 3 CT scans, 2 ER visits, and 1 steroid epidural injection. This injury wasn’t a bone, it’s wasn’t something visible to everyone else. It was a complete mental game. No one understood what the pain, numbness, and burning meant, nor the “paralyzed” feeling. I’m so grateful that i trusted my gut and kept pushing for answers.

Along with those couple of years meant taking a step back from soccer. At the time my body needed a break, so i was at terms with the thought of taking time away to heal. But that time quickly started to expand. 4 months turned into 7 months, 7 months turned into 1 year, then 2 years and much more. Over time i quickly began to realize how much soccer meant to me. And for that to be taken away, while watching all your club teammates have success, and all your high school teammates killing it and having a blast, was extremely hard. I started to realize being on the outside looking in meant being there as a supporter and less of a teammate. It wasn’t ideal, but it gave me a different perspective on soccer and what it means to me.
