Welcome to KOTE.

인사동의 열여섯 골목중 첫번째 길, 인사동 1길.
극장과 재즈, 피맛골의 삶과 예술, 역사적 향수로 물든 골목입니다.

그 골목 끝에서 1907년 연흥사가 1922년 조선극장이 문을 열었고, 1923년에는 토월회의 창립 공연이 막을 올렸습니다. 이곳에서 시작된 삶과 예술의 시간은 지금도 흐르고 있습니다.

지하 1층부터 지상 5층까지, KOTE의 모든 공간은 전시와 공연, 영화와 워크숍, 만남과 교류가 경계없이 펼쳐지는 무대입니다.

A drop that began in Zurich lands in Seoul. 💧

I'm part of 헤쳐모여 / Hechyeomoyeo at @kote.kr in Insa-dong, together with 200+ local and international artists brought together by @thehechyeomoyeo.

헤쳐모여 means "scatter, then gather". So I'm bringing «Cadency of a Drop», an illustrated story I made in Zurich. A drop of water falls from the sky, meets a rock and falls in love. Every storm brings them together again, in a continuous cycle of life. In 2021 the story became a contact improvisation performance at Offdance, Zurich.

Water has run through my work for over fifteen years. This piece is also my own path: from Pordenone, Padova, Treviso and Milano to Zurich in 2016, where this story was born, and on to Ticino in 2021. Now the drop lands in Seoul, gathering with all of you.

I am humbled and honored to be able to showcase my new found passion for mask making alongside so many talented artists at the Kote Gallery in Seoul, Korea!!! I find difficulty expressing how much gratitude I have for BIG NEIL @thetitleofabook @thehechyeomoyeo and @kote.kr for giving everyone the opportunity to participate together in creative ways around the world.
My masks are made with recycled paper that was shredded, pulped, and sculpted by yours truly.

Is freedom free?

Most of us rarely stop to think about human rights. We notice them most when they are absent.

For Eunju Kim, human rights are not an abstract concept or a policy discussion.

Having escaped North Korea as a child, she has spent much of her adult life helping others understand the realities faced by those whose freedoms remain restricted. But what does human rights work actually look like?

How do you advocate for people in a country you cannot freely enter?

How do you create awareness, influence public opinion, and contribute to change when progress is often measured in years rather than days?

At The Gallery, Eunju will share both her personal journey and her perspective on the challenges, dilemmas, and hopes that shape human rights advocacy today. A conversation about freedom and responsibility but also hope and the many ways one person can make a difference.

Rémi의 울림 위로 원재연의 보컬·타악이 내려앉았다.

어떻게 첫 만남에 이런 호흡이 가능할까.
우리는 그 질문마저 잊은 채, 경이로운 소리 속으로 깊이 빠져들었다.

Rémi Klemensiewicz | 레미 클레멘세비츠 @remi_klemensiewicz
프랑스 마르세유에서 미술을 전공하고, 2013년부터 서울을 기반으로 활동해온 사운드·인터미디어 아티스트. 소리를 실험의 중심 재료로 삼아 설치와 실험음악, 라이브 퍼포먼스를 넘나든다. 세계 여러 지역의 전통 악기와 아날로그·디지털 장치를 결합해 소리의 진동과 질감, 감각의 경계를 탐험한다. 세종문화회관과 파리 국립 기메박물관, 백남준아트센터와 리움미술관 등에서 공연과 워크숍을 펼쳐왔다.

원재연 | 보컬·타악 @ffforree
어린시절부터 전통 타악과 연희를 익혀온 음악가이자 퍼포머. 보컬과 전통타악의 리듬을 바탕으로 인디·일렉트로닉·전시·사운드 디자인을 아우르며 전통연희를 동시대로 잇는다. 타악, 자연의 소리, 원초적인 발성을 겹겹이 쌓아 명상적이고 몰입적인 사운드의 풍경을 만든다. 그녀의 음악에는 몸을 깨우고 마음을 해방시키는 축제의 역동성과 반복되는 리듬과 깊은 울림속에서 내면에 귀기울이게 하는 고요함이 함께 흐른다. 64ksana, 밴드 백원 멤버. 국가무형문화재 제57호 경기민요 전수자이자 경기도무형문화재 제50호 이천거북놀이 이수자로 2026 국립아시아문화전당 《Remapping ASIA》에 참여했다. by @kote.kr
