Nicobar Scrubfowl (Megapodius nicobariensis) also known as the Nicobar Megapode.

The Nicobar Megapode makes a mound of soil and vegetation using its strong legs and lays eggs within the mound. The bird comes occasionally to inspect its nest, though the eggs hatch on their own due to the rotting vegetation. The chick can fend for themselves once they are out of the mound.

Trogon’s are very unique, apart from being brightly coloured, they are the only ones who can leave behind a very unique foot print, their first and second toes point backwards, while their other toes point forward (heterodactyl)

Endemic birds of the Western Ghats

The Western Ghats are more than just a mountain range, they’re one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots, home to birds found nowhere else on Earth. Every sighting is a reminder of how unique and fragile these ancient forests truly are.

Here are some of the endemic birds of the Western Ghats:

1. Malabar Grey Hornbill (Ocyceros griseus)
2. Nilgiri Flycatcher (Eumyias albicaudatus)
3. White-cheeked barbet (Psilopogon viridis)

The Eversmann’s Redstart (Phoenicurus erythronotus), also known as the Rufous-backed Redstart.

An extremely scarce and unpredictable nomadic winter visitor to India.

Despite it being called the “Black-throated Parrotbill” (Suthora nipalensis ) it’s not actually a parrot!

Known for its acrobatic movements while searching for insects in dense reed beds and bamboo forests.

Expressive face make them look permanently curious and cute.

They are tiny, they are restless, wrapped in warm chestnut tones, the Rufous-capped Babbler (Cyanoderma ruficeps) is one of the hidden gems of the forests in Asia.

Often heard before it’s seen, this shy bird moves through dense undergrowth, filling the forest with soft chatter.

The bird kept coming out through the shadows and hopped away testing my reflexes. The spray and pray technique worked once again. (Firing the shutter along with the moves of the birds and hoping you get one frame right) 😎

The tawny owl (Strix aluco) ia a medium-sized, robust owl measuring 35 to 40 cm with a distribution in the northwest India apart from other regions.

These owl species do not have ear tufts and are highly nocturnal.
