This past Saturday, the KPU VR Lab had the exciting opportunity to be a part of @sci_rendezvous 2025 WONDER! Science Rendezvous is a registered charitable organization dedicated to bringing exciting research and STEM experiences and programming to the public. Our VR Lab members were invited to host demonstrations and share some of our work at this year's event!
VR Lab members engaged with youth, students, and families, demonstrating the benefits of VR technology in education and advocating for beneficial, appropriate, acessible, and ethical use of VR technology for youth and students of all age, abilities, and learning types.
Our demonstrations included:
Jasbir and Zhane:
1) Fear of heights simulator (Richies Plank Experience) - Demonstrating applications for acessible, safe exposure, therapy.
2) Homelessness Simulator (Becoming Homeless: a Human Experience) - Demonstrating empathy building through immersive stories and enhanced learning through immersion
Kajal:
VR Pain Perception Demonstration - Demonstrating VRs' ability to alter our perception of discomfort and pain.
Jasleen:
1) VR Immmersive Meditation - Demonstrating accessible resources and technology for therapeutic applications, the effectiveness of VR meditation in relation to pain perception, and limited perception of distractions.
2) VR Tours - Demonstrating the effects and benefits of immersive education, approaches for travel anxiety, homesickness, and empathy building.
3) Talks about VR educational applications, benefits, and resources
