He's all done, but I can't seem to think of a name for this little guy. Any suggestions gratefully received. The sillier, the better! 😜

With enormous thanks Lyu Novozhilova for the amazing reference photo 💖.

Dopamine high of completion giddiness! ✨

When they look at you like this, you just know they're up to no good.

Trying to manifest a lil friend via The Cat Distribution System by drawing him into existence 🪄

My next Sphynx cat drawing is complete! It was the contrast between those big green eyes and the soft pinks and greys in the skin that drew me in with this one.

Don't they just have the best facial expressions too? You can see every little crinkle and microexpression without the fur being there. You know they're up to no good when they do that little lip curl thing.

I'm still on the lookout for more reference photos of Sphynx cats, so feel free to share them in the comments 😻.

My process video for "What?" (kind of). Like an idiot, I got so engrossed in drawing, I completely forgot to film the middle bit 🤦. Once that hyperfocus kicks in, it's powerful!

Anyway, I hope you like this funky lil rubber chicken creature. They're just so comical and great fun to draw.

More Sphynx cat pics coming soon! 😻 by @kra__art

I'm calling this one "What?"

Hoping to do a whole series of Sphynx cats as they're so much fun to draw with their funny little wrinkly faces. So, if you have a well lit, high resolution photo and wouldn't mind me immortalising your pet in coloured pencil, feel free to get in touch.

Have you tried the new Polychromos pencil colours yet? This pencil nerd has been enjoying them very much!

The pale pastel colours are so good for creating delicate shades when drawing things like white flowers, feathers, and fur. They're a much-needed and welcome addition. Well done @fabercastelluk

They came from the lovely Emma at @colourpencil.shop who always sends them quickly and so nicely packaged with a little personalised note inside. Thank you 💖! 100% recommend! Will order again! 👍 by @kra__art

Once upon a time I was a little girl who wanted to be an artist. Then I was a teenager who wanted to be a dentist. Now I'm an adult who wants to be an artist again.

When I look back, I realise the artist in me has always been there.

My dental training was one of the most difficult but amazing things I've ever done. I undertook it shortly after one of the most stressful times in my life and, as hard as the course was, it and the people I met there were something of a lifeline to me.

One of the big things that attracted me to dentistry was that there is a really strong artistic side to it. When we're doing fillings, we really want to make them resemble the natural tooth as much as possible, so that they fit into the bite properly and look pleasing to the patient. This takes a great deal of knowledge about tooth morphology, materials, and technical skill - not to mention the ability to execute the procedure in the challenging and very small space available in the oral cavity.

Something I was not prepared for was the finger strength needed for a full day of hand scaling!!!

When I picked up drawing again after stopping work due to ill health 10 years ago, I was astonished to find that my drawing skills had mysteriously improved considerably - without me having done any drawing since childhood.

I concluded that it must have been due to the skills I'd honed during 10 years of dentistry. I thought it might be interesting for other aspiring artists to hear an example of how a seemingly unrelated job might actually help you develop your artistic skills.

Something I've realised recently is how much better being an artist suits my introversion. Dentistry is a very public facing career and after a week of back to back appointments, I would be so peopled out and exhausted. Making art has the lovely bonus of not tiring me in this way.

It's also not lost me how, when scaling teeth, we use a "colouring in motion" with the instrument, which we hold in a "pen-grip". Cue the Alanis Morisette music!

It's funny how things come full circle.

Yes, yes, sitting up straight is very important.

Ahem! 🤔

"Selfie" 😻

Imagine picking up your phone and finding this in your photo gallery!

It was so much fun to draw this goofy lil goober. Raw chicken cats are just pure comedy on four legs! ❤️

Many thanks to the photographer for generously allowing use of their brilliant photo.

I'm calling this one "Selfie".

If you've never had the pleasure of meeting a Sphynx cat before, you've been missing out. These little rotisserie chickens are the funniest, craziest, rubberiest little friends you will ever have. They're completely bonkers, mischievous as hell, and super sweet and affectionate.

I'm slightly obsessed with them at the moment so expect more uncooked chimkins coming to your screen soon!

Progress pics of this little guy! I didn't include the background stages coz they're not very exciting.

Honk!

As soon as I saw the amazing photo of this little gosling, looking like he's throwing some shapes on the dancefloor, I immediately HAD to draw him!!! 🐥💖.

As an artist, I felt it was about time I made a post about AI *groans* 🙄

Firstly, I can't believe I'm even having to write this! It would have been unthinkable even just a few years ago, but here we are in the wild timeline that is 2026.

So, to make my position clear, I HATE AI art, music, writing, film, etc. It's 🤬!!!

It infuriates me to think that billionaires want to take our sacred forms of human expression and churn out pillaged, soulless, machine-generated slop versions to sell to us in order to line their pockets.

I want to listen to music created in a human mind. I want to read words that move me because they reflect a real person's life experience. I want to hang a painting on my wall that was made by a human hand.

It will come as no surprise then that all my work is completely hand-drawn by me - an actual human - with not a hint of AI whatsoever. This is a slop-free zone!

Perhaps the best way to fight the rising tide of slop is to keep making, buying, and sharing human-made art and to reject the stuff we don't want.

So rather than let it get me down, I'm feeling inspired to keep creating and I hope you do too 💖.
