Vorig jaar werd de Kraaktegel uitgenodigd door @luxnijmegen , in samenwerking met @de_balie , om deel te nemen aan een debatavond met als thema de toekomst van kraken. Ter voorbereiding legden we op 11 september vier tegels in Nijmegen: @deklinkernijmegen , @deonderbroek , @paraplufabrieken , @nijmeegsjantien_they.them .
@lottebax_ documenteerde dit proces en creëerde deze geweldige korte film, met muziek van @teissemey en @bjorksemey

On Tuesday, August 14, 2024, squatters revealed that they had occupied an old primary school! The building had already been awaiting it's demolition for a while. After the initial occupation, the group managed to hold off the police force that had been called in. Since then, they have been breathing new life into the Rotterdam school, known as Catu. The building serves as a living space and a gathering place that emphasizes inclusivity. Catu houses an anarchist library and hosts non-profit social events. Keep an eye on Catu at radar.squat.net.

To emphasise the presence and importance of squatting in the city, the Kraaktegel was placed in front of this door on November 8, 2024. This red tile immortalizes the fight for the right to affordable and accessible spaces for everyone.

In 2012, the tax authorities seized the former brothel “Jan Bik.” The brothel closed and became the property of the Central Government Real Estate Agency. After seven years of vacancy, the historic building was squatted in 2019 and renamed Ome Jan! Despite numerous renovations over the centuries, traces dating back to 1450 can still be found. The building, situated in the heart of the harbor, was already functioning as a brothel back then.
Ome Jan, the safe haven where people could find respite for the past five years, has now been evicted.

To emphasise the presence and importance of squatting in the city, the Kraaktegel was placed in front of this door on November 5, 2024. This red tile immortalizes the fight for the right to affordable and accessible spaces for everyone.

THE BIG PANTS!
Van Broeckhuysenstraat 46, Nijmegen

De Grote Broek, the figurehead of the Nijmegen squatting movement, was squatted on November 4, 1984, to denounce the introduction of the Vacancy Act. In the vacant building, which originally served as a printing house, it was decided to occupy the upper floor and convert the downstairs into workspaces. Today, De Grote Broek houses, among other things, the political café De Klinker, the anarchist library De Zwarte Uil, and De Onderbroek organizes parties and concerts in the basement.

To emphasise the presence and importance of squatting in the city, the Kraaktegel was placed in front of this door on 11 September 2024, in collaboration with liberal podium LUX in Nijmegen. The red tile immortalises the struggle for the right to affordable and accessible spaces for everyone.
