HOLDING THE THRESHOLD

What does it mean to remain with a threshold rather than crossing it?

To stay with uncertainty.
To inhabit transition.
To hold space for what is not yet fully formed.

Across sculpture, installation, moving image and gesture, the exhibition unfolds as a constellation of encounters—between bodies and architectures, memory and material, presence and becoming.

Holding the Threshold

14 — 22 May 2026 · Neues Ufer 19, Berlin

A project by Lavinia Diniz Freitas / ApertΩArts, @lavinfreitas developed with artists, collaborators and active participants on the invitation of Kracart.

The exhibition begins at a threshold. A body has not yet been named, a memory has not yet settled into narrative, a form has not yet closed around its meaning. Each body carries more than it fully knows: accumulated history, inherited memory that official records never held or long ago erased.

The artists gathered in Holding the Threshold work precisely here — in the space between what the body has absorbed and what it releases. In a time marked by the tightening of borders, identities and narratives, the threshold becomes a place where carried histories remain permeable to what they have not yet met, and to change.

📍 Venue & Location
Neues Ufer 19, 10553 Berlin-Moabit

A former industrial site on the Charlottenburger Verbindungskanal in Moabit, part of the historic Menzel Elektromotoren complex at Neues Ufer 9–25. The building stands on a canal that has carried freight, brick and industry since 1875, at the point where Moabit, Charlottenburg and Wedding meet. The surrounding waterfront is now undergoing transformation, with former factory plots being reshaped into a mixed-use neighbourhood.
