Just wanna thank sister @indiaarie for transcribing a timeless and permanent wisdom from the creative cosmos. Her work is a historical record for all of us.

It’s the warmest of hugs for our human bodies, sure—but to the celestial form it’s the coolest silk cloth.

Truly no sweat for the worn and worried, as we acclimate to navigating some of the scorch trapped with us from our closest star.

She is a fount to encourage and uplift us—still—like a shiny new present, here in the future, though born as lyric and melody in a world past.

And, the true spiral of existence, our circadian rhythm, the fabric that renders a dimensional form to the cycle of space-time—in which you’ll find all the answers to life and love ready to chase the demons you’ve been afraid of— this you will hear.

It flows throughout all her work, buuuutt this one hits so very deep right now. Thank you, Ms. Arie 🙏🏾 by @kraven

Snaps from a Barnes & Noble that’s now in its last days.

We’re not supposed to grieve things that are commercial, but given there’s not another one of these oversized formats that look like old, musky libraries in the metro, and it happened to be the closest to me (plus I’m a complete nerd as we know 🤓) it feels like a much bigger loss than it should.

I was always up there and never even imagined I’d see the day that it’d be gone.

There’s something magical to me about reading and letting your eyes wander all the way up to that center chandelier that—by today’s standards, is ridiculously high and super ornate for just a bookstore.

The sense of space and wonder the architects achieved when they designed these is really underrated.

(I really wish there was a documentary or book on their store design process and how they decided THIS was it.)

I can reasonably assume they didn’t design these to just make people buy, buy, buy like most stores—or even the newer B&N locations, which force you through a labyrinth of shelves intentionally, making the path through the store itself both a route of discovery and a constant upsell—they designed these particular formats to simply make readers comfortable for long periods in the space.

And as much as I celebrate and shop indie as much as possible, that was precisely how Barnes & Noble won over life long customers like me. It feels like home (weird, cuz commercial, sure—but FACTS because I fckin said so).

The space was always the only salesperson. (Notice you rarely get directly sold to in a B&N)

It was also one of the few remaining spaces in the area where homeless people could just be inside when libraries are closed without some security shoo’ing them off (which was a good thing to me).

Manhattan c. 2025. I was on the way to a bookshop. It was too cold for gelato, but I felt like I needed to buy something since takin camera pics don’t pay their bills. The gelato was scrumptious.
