Bringing our Arctic unit to life with this frozen Arctic play 🐻‍❄️🦭🧊❄️

This simple sensory invitation gave us the chance to explore snow and ice, learn about Arctic animals, build new vocabulary, and spark so many conversations.

It’s one of my favourite ways to extend our homeschool learning beyond the pages of a book, giving the kids a chance to explore, imagine, and connect with what we’re learning in a meaningful way.

I’m a Type A mum who loves to plan ahead.

I know our homeschool days won’t always be perfect, but having things prepared helps create a sense of calm for me too. It’s not just about making things easier for the kids — it’s about helping me feel more present and less overwhelmed throughout our days.

These are just a few things I’ve prepared for our first little season of homeschooling. I’m sure there are things I’ve missed, so I’d love to hear from the homeschooling mums… what are your must-haves or things that have made your days easier?

JULY SHELF ROTATION

A little late to sharing this month’s shelf rotation but I’ve decided to be a little more intentional with our shelves and focus on Montessori-inspired activities that are appropriate for my daughter’s age and stage.

Rather than filling the shelves with random activities, I want each rotation to have a purpose, supporting the skills she’s naturally developing while still leaving plenty of room for play and exploration.

Going forward, these will be weekly shelf rotations with activities chosen around what we’re currently working on and the skills we’re focusing on at this stage.

This month’s shelf includes lots of opportunities to build fine motor skills, hand strength, coordination, problem-solving, and independence through simple, hands-on activities.

We kept it simple with a painted 3D snowflake, and sometimes that’s all you need. A little paint, a little creativity, and some quality time together.

A little quieter on here, but a very full month behind the scenes.
