When @likethewindmag reached out and asked whether I had thoughts to share about running and trails and how we sometimes do it - and don't - I replied with a whole host of ideas.

For starters, it's the excuses and disclaimers I often hear from the women who come to the trail clinics I host. I'm slow, they say. I'm old, or I'm new, or I'm not a real runner. Inevitably they say these things while actually, literally, undeniably running. The ways we apologize, devalue, and deny our strength and capabilities isn't doing us any favors, frankly.

The trail doesn't apologize for being long, hilly, and hard, for being itself. Why should we?

Too many of us work way too hard, fighting inner battles for legitimacy that will never come. Because we don't need it to. How about the fact that we show up to do the thing at all is legitimacy enough? And what if my running can be fine and fulfilling without having to compare it to yours or theirs, to the elite, or even to my past running self?

Thank you @likethewindmag for including my writing. I often have a lot to say, and I'm grateful to have my voice included here. by @kristepeoples

Join @trailblazers_ww and I for Black Seed: A Journey of Tending, a monthly evening series of connection, reflection, and embodied practice centering queer BIPOC womxn and open to all BIPOC women. Together, we will gather in a welcoming space to slow down, listen deeply, and reconnect with ourselves and one another.

Through meditation, gentle movement, breath practices, poetry, we will explore what becomes possible when we pause long enough to notice our experience, stay present with what arises, soften toward ourselves, and return to the wisdom already within us.

This is not a space for fixing or performing.  It is an invitation to arrive as you are.  Whether you are seeking rest, community, inspiration, or a moment to exhale, this evening offers room to be held by collective presence and care.

Come as you are. May you leave feeling more grounded, connected, and resourced for the path ahead. Link in bio. by @kristepeoples

It's the second time we've run the Sol Sisters camping weekend, and there probably couldn't have been a better weekend for it weather wise. Plus, the women were nothing short of amazing.

And who knew there was such a thing as tent sleeping uninterrupted for 9 hours each night? I didn't know it, but now I do. Glory!

And what a gift to offer yoga in the forest under a canopy of evergreens. Y'all!

Speaking of yoga, I'm offering the July installment of my Devotion series on Sunday, July 26. Yoga, meditation, community: what a powerful start to the day.

I started the morning with precious trail time and Becca, catching up on the plans we'd hatched over a hikey run in the sun. Then came the stretching and more movement, which os always fun with friends. by @kristepeoples

I don't need a special occasion to run, and when you throw in good people, great causes, and tutus, I really don't have to think twice.

The guy said he did 90-second caricatures for a donation. We were feeling generous.

This photo is seven years old. It's the only photo I know of that's just the two of us - me and my dad. I was reminded of that when it came up on a carousel of images at his memorial service a few weeks ago. He died last month.

My dad and I were distant at best. When I look at it, this photo is actually a good representation of our relationship: pleasant enough, and blurry.

When he died, I had a lot of unresolved feelings I didn't know what to do with - including ambivalence and anger. I asked a close relative, 'Do you think he even liked me at all?'

'I'm not sure he liked himself,' they said.

In the days since, I've been giving myself room to move through my feelings without trying to make sense of them all. I'm imagining our hearts reconciling, finding peace, remembering the root of love, moving on. I say 'hearts' because my conscious mind alone won't get me there.

Even so, two things I do know:
1. I wouldn't be me without him, and
2. Somehow, there is always love.

Whoever said it's supposed to be easy and effortless can have a seat. It's easier to talk a good game from one's seat, after all.

It's called hard work for a reason.
