Protecting critically endangered African penguins when and where help is needed most along 1,271 miles of South Africa's coastline. #NotBy2035

When does 1 = 45? One of the reasons we say "Every penguin counts" is because of the ripple effect of rescuing one penguin. That one African penguin can potentially bring about 45 chicks into the declining African penguin population.

This World Wildlife Day, we celebrate the iconic African penguins we protect from extinction.

Links to become an African Penguin Protector are in our bio.

Warning: extreme cuteness ahead. African penguins are projected to be extinct in the wild by 2035 if nothing changes. Help us change it. Share with a friend!

Vote for your favorite in the comments. Detailed reasoning, flattery, and treats are all welcome. And no, I won't wear donkey ears. We're trying to get over the collective trauma of once being called jackass penguins. Our braying sounds way cooler than that. 🎃

Much has been said about baby Shannon and the honor of having her named after our Co-founder. Now let's honor the parents. This is the story of how mom Happy Feet and dad Ballot found each other, told in two unforgettable chapters.

Overfishing is on my short list of dislikes, right between mediocrity and gulls.

Where does your fish come from? What did it eat?

African penguins are critically endangered, and each one makes a difference. A single penguin can produce at least 45 offspring over its lifetime. That’s why “Every penguin counts” is not just a tagline. It’s the truth. It's a rallying cry. Won’t you join us? Link in bio.

Thank you for standing with us, for believing in community‑rooted conservation, and for choosing a future where these remarkable birds continue to waddle, bray, and raise their chicks on a coastline that still feels like home.
