Working with Doug Profitt @sandhillnursery is always a treat! He looks at everything as figureoutable, not matter the challenge! He helped hoist this hand onto a giant grim creeper chicken with me this week and it was too much fun!
We have big things in production right now and we can’t wait to get it all done for this year’s fall festival. It’s going to be bigger and better than ever! taken in Sandhill Nursery by @kryart

Meet Rocco! The Classico Chianti Rooster!

Did you know the story behind the black rooster represented on your favourite bottle of Chianti?

The Medieval Legend

In the Middle Ages, the rival cities of Florence and Siena were locked in a bitter feud over the prized Chianti wine-producing hills that lay between them. To avoid endless bloodshed, they devised a peculiar and peaceful competition to settle their territorial borders.

The rules were:
Two knights would set out on horseback from their respective cities.Their departure would be signaled by the first crow of a rooster at daybreak. The boundary between Florence and Siena would be drawn at the exact point the two knights met.

While Siena selected a perfect white rooster that slept comfortably and crowed at its natural hour.
The Florentines chose a black rooster. To ensure an advantage, the Florentines kept their bird in a dark coop and starved it for several days. On the day of the ride, the ravenous and disoriented black rooster began to crow furiously long before dawn. Hearing the call, the Florentine knight departed immediately, riding well into Sienese territory before the white rooster finally crowed for Siena. Consequently, the knights met just 12 miles outside the walls of Siena, and almost the entire Chianti region fell under Florentine control.
