If you love Star Trek like I do this is a very sad week.

On Monday Walter Koenig “Commander Pavel Chekov” from TOS and the six movies passed away at age 90.
Yesterday Sir Patrick Stewart from TNG, its movies and the series “ST: Picard” among many other stage and movie credits passed away at age 86.

My condolences to both families and all who knew and loved them. Thank you gentlemen for decades of entertainment and inspiration.

Since the Lovell Family helped dedicated his tree at the JSC Memorial Grove, I thought I’d dedicate this photo I took 30 mins ago to Captain Lovell with this quote from Apollo 13:

“ I sometimes catch myself looking up at the moon, remembering the changes of fortune in our long voyage, thinking of the thousands of people who worked to bring the three of us home. I look up at the moon, and wonder when will we be going back, and who will that be?” by @kscartist

When I knew that I would be unable to attend MISSION:60s at the TWA this weekend, A-B Emblem and I devised a way for me to participate.

Visit the AB Emblem booth at the event and inquire about pre-ordering these two special patches created for this event hosted by Max K. Kaiserman and Luna Replicas.

A new listing…

NASA-SPACE- Astronaut Class of 1996-Multi-signed class photo and patches

This is probably the “white whale” of my collection. I hope it finds a good home.

Backstory:

In 2004 my 31 year dream of working with a crew to design their mission patch came true when John Phillips invited me to help create the ISS Expedition 11 crew patch. We collaborated over the summer and I submitted my final art in September. In December John emailed me that the graphics team at JSC had tweaked and polished my design but that I could still proudly claim ownership. John added me to his email contact list so during his increment (April-October 2005) we stayed in touch. At Christmas 2004 he sent me this multi-signed class photo and class patches. I have cherished it for more than 20 years but now it’s time for it to have a new home.

Thank you for looking.

Twenty-five years ago tonight, thousands of people in this country went to bed with their loved ones for the last time.

Some were excited, looking forward to the trip they’d be taking in the morning. Others were perhaps dreading the usual commute to work.

How many of them were rushed the following morning?
How many didn’t make time to kiss their kids or their spouses? They mumbled a quick goodbye and headed out the door…not knowing it would be the last time they’d see their loved ones.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.

We will never forget!!!

This patch was commissioned by the KSC Fire Department when the WTC beam was moved to The Avenues in Viera in 2017.

In 2019 I donated one to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. by @kscartist

If you’re familiar with my story you know how fortunate I’ve been sharing my graphic art but that’s not to say sometimes the reaction is less than enthusiastic.

A few months ago knowing that two special anniversaries were this month I created this patch.

The Star Trek ENTERPRISE was unveiled to the world 60 years ago today.
The Space Shuttle ENTERPRISE was unveiled to the world 50 years ago on September 17th.

I tried to pitch it to numerous organizations without success. The reaction was more or less “meh.” Of course that’s common with patches with a relatively short shelf life.

Anyway I was pleased how I combined both ships and flight crews so I thought I’d still share. Maybe in 5-10 years I can try again. by @kscartist

While I loved Star Trek, the reality of space exploration captured my interest. So on this “Star Trek Day” I share my tribute to the real Captains of the Enterprise: Fred Haise and Joe Engle.

They say you should never meet your heroes, “they” are wrong.

In July, 2016 I attended an Apollo 11 celebration hosted by Buzz Aldrins ShareSpace Foundation at KSC.

The guest of honor was Captain Sulu himself, George Takei. I had the chance to gift him with my Enterprise commemorative patch.

I have been fortunate to see both Enterprise space ships.

NC-1701 at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC in 2016. Revealed to the world on September 8, 1966.

OV-101 at the Intrepid Museum in New York City in 2019. Revealed to the world on September 17, 1976

Both were very generous in providing inspiration. Live long and Prosper 🖖🏻

Many friends are gathering at KSC for the launch in the morning of our observatory, the
Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope.

I’ll be watching from home but I’ll be there in the form of my newest commemorative which is being sold by the NASA KSC Exchange Store mobile trailers at various viewing sites.

I hope it is well received. For those not at KSC it is also available from the official patch supplier @ab_emblem
