The set was a whirlwind of log drum bass, sheer stage presence, and pure crowd chaos in the best way. icymi, i had my final radio show with @ksfsradio two weeks ago. (this podcast is the last recorded evidence of me being 29 btw!!!!!)

i began my grad program at sfsu with a goal to teach at the community college level. i guest lectured a few semesters in a row at sdsu because my undergrad mentor (and friend!!) @drnaterodriguez believed in me. everything i’ve done in my career since sdsu comes back, in some way, to ways i was encouraged while i was there. my mom listened to every single radio show i did throughout undergrad. my favorite podcaster and survivor contestant, @robcesternino, gave me feedback on my first ever podcast after i emailed it to him in 2016. dr. nate’s pop culture-centric research and classes showed me i could pursue a career in this—first at e! news, now doing my own pop culture research. what we create as students is powerful—college is the time to experiment and have fun and use your voice. the hope is you get the encouragement during college so you never stop creating once you leave.

i got the opportunity to teach my first class, radio and podcasting, in the fall. the students in the class were brilliant, and it reminded me of how important it is to create and encourage others to create, too. i see my mom and rob cesternino and dr. nate as role models for obvious reasons, but i also think i would not be doing what i’m doing now with grief and media had it not been for the students in the class i taught.

i came to grad school to teach (and i will be in the fall!!!!!) but of course i left with so much more. i guess i shouldn’t be surprised!
