Officially completed the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program. Excited to join my fellow cohort members in New York next week.

This 12-week experience was less about learning how to run a business — and more about refining how to scale one intentionally. It also gave me the opportunity to connect with and learn alongside an incredible cohort of established business owners from across the country.

Over the past several months, I’ve had the opportunity to strengthen strategy, evaluate operations, and further develop the long-term vision for K Smith Company and Caseflow Financial. Being surrounded by accomplished business owners reinforced the importance of structure, leadership, scalability, and operational excellence when building a sustainable company.

Grateful for the experience, the connections, and the continued growth. Looking forward to what’s ahead as we continue expanding our impact and serving clients nationwide.

Last week’s session at @retreatbytgs , “Wealth by Design: Mastering Taxes, Income, and Retirement Strategy,” was an informative conversation around one major theme: building wealth intentionally — not just earning income.

We discussed how the source of your income determines how it’s taxed, the importance of tax diversification, and the power of smart deductions and strategic tax planning.

Grateful for the opportunity to share knowledge, connect with the community, and help people think differently about taxes, wealth, and financial strategy.

As the first African American woman to earn a CPA license in Illinois, she broke barriers and paved the way for countless others in the profession. Her dedication to excellence and commitment to education led her to establish the Washington Wylie Foundation, promoting opportunities for future generations of accountants.

🌟 Today, K Smith Company proudly honors John W. Cromwell Jr., a true trailblazer who made history in 1921 as the first African American CPA.

Despite facing immense challenges in a time when it was difficult for Black individuals to access the education, work experience, and resources needed for the CPA license, John persevered.

He earned his degree from Dartmouth University, navigating systemic barriers to fulfill his dream. His groundbreaking achievements paved the way for countless others in the accounting profession. He also served as Comptroller at Howard University.

📢 Important Update for Small Businesses: With less than 30 days until the Beneficial Ownership Information reporting deadline, the Corporate Transparency Act has been blocked by Texas federal courts.

NEXT STEPS:
▫️If your business has already reported to FinCEN, you can pause all compliance efforts. With the current injunction, the CTA cannot enforce regulations at this time.
▫️If your business has not reported to FinCEN, delay your reporting. Further guidance and court decisions could reinstate the act’s enforceability

We will keep you updated as FinCEN is likely to appeal. Stay tuned!
