BearGirl!
Wow! It happened!
I am so incredibly grateful for the village of people it took to make the show. BearGirl was my most ambitious project yet and I feel so lucky that it got to happen like this. Directing and co-producing this show has been such a journey but I truly could not have done it without so many people. So THANK YOU to everyone who was even a small part of this show. To anyone who donated and shared our crowdfunder, to the people who worked with us on developments and came to readings, who gave feedback and helped us with budgets/press/etc. To the immensely talented cast, who blew me away every single time I got to watch them onstage. To Becca who not only is my shared braincell but whose genius technical expertise quite literally brought the show to life. To Will who proved to be an incredible (first time!) sound designer. And to Emery, my work wife, my partner in crime, I’m so proud of us and thank you for trusting me with this show.
I still can’t believe this fever dream of a month happened but I am so so full of gratitude. Team BG 4ever

Something BIG is coming…. 👀

It’s been a minute but we’re back and SO excited to announce our newest production coming to the EDINBURGH FRINGE 2026!

BearGirl
Written by Emery Schaffer

ABOUT 🐻👧
‘Bear suits, bereavement, and big scary feelings, oh my. When a young, grief-stricken widow finds herself as the victim with unwanted attention, she copes by donning an unlikely and weirdly sentimental bear costume. And so BearGirl is born: an unfeeling, thick-skinned beast of a woman who doesn’t care that you’re staring at her, because it’s not really her. As she navigates life as a new bear-woman hybrid, she also figures out how to deter unwanted interactions, inconvenient feelings, and help from willing neighbours and friends. But when the voice of her husband starts to haunt her, she’s reminded of a mistake she made in her past that she’s desperately trying to escape, and in turn, questions if moving on is even in the cards. Can BearGirl truly ever disappear into her new identity? Or will her reality make the predator into the prey? A new play about love and hate, desire and guilt, and reclaiming how to be yourself when it’s all been stripped away. A modern retelling of ‘The Bear’ by Anton Chekhov (1888).’

We are so excited to announce this new project and can’t wait to get started and share more about the process! But for now, we need YOUR help.

2025 Edinburgh Fringe: A tale of two shows (directed by me!)

What a lovely experience to direct two amazing shows this year. I am so grateful to have worked with such talented people this fringe. Thank you for making such a manic month so enjoyable! Now time to sleep for a million years

SO I recently remembered that I can post more than just a story about what projects I’ve worked on/am currently working on, soooo here’s me being a ~professional & organized~ director, pls enjoy :)

1&2- We went to Brighton with @trystantryharder weird, wonderful, and gorgeous show “The Dahlia Files” and had the best time! I love brighton & its fringe!

3,4,5- the boys of “Holly Street” at their preview! The loveliest group that always make me cackle every time I watch a run, very grateful to make silly theatre with them :) @longface.theatre

6&7- a preview of Dahlia, with fab photos by @jed364 , featuring me and Trystan looking like serious.theatre.people.

8&9- I directed my first R&D week on @conorbamodwyer beautiful show with the most incredible team of wonderful and talented people! I felt like the luckiest gal just to be apart of it! @frameworktheatrecompany

10&11- @mashao5 wrote an incredibly cool show and let me direct a snippet at our scratch night in April. She’s super cool and I’m not being biased ok I swear. Also we wore lab coats and did stupid voices, all in all a successful night! (and amazing photos by @abbiemlowe !)
