PA HISTORY

59 years ago, on October 6, 1967, the first three PAs graduated from Duke University’s pioneering PA program.

Victor H. Germino
Kenneth F. Ferrell
Richard J. Scheele

Three graduates. One new profession. A legacy that would go on to change health care forever.

Today, more than 200,000 PAs practice medicine across the United States — caring for patients, serving communities and carrying forward the vision that began at Duke.

59 years of the PA profession. And we’re just getting started.

Today is a BIG day for PA Week in Manhattan!

Tonight, October 6th at 6:00 PM, the Manhattan City Commission will issue a proclamation recognizing Physician Assistant Week during their meeting at City Hall. If you can’t join us in person, you can watch the proclamation live through the City of Manhattan’s website or Cox Cable Channel 3.

And don’t forget — tonight is also our Texas Roadhouse fundraiser! From 3:00–10:00 PM, Texas Roadhouse at 200 Manhattan Town Center will donate 10% of qualifying food purchases to support the Kansas State University Physician Assistant Program.

IMPORTANT: To make sure K-State receives the donation, you must download the official fundraiser flyer with the barcode and present it when you dine. The flyer will be posted in the comments, so be sure to download it before heading to Texas Roadhouse.

Two great ways to celebrate PA Week today — watch the proclamation, then grab some dinner and support the next generation of PAs!

Happy #PAWeek from the **K-State PA Program!** 💜🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the PA profession and the incredible difference PAs make every day — caring for patients, serving communities, and making an impact wherever they go.

At the **K-State PA Program**, we’re especially proud of the people who make our program and our profession so special. 💜

To our **faculty** who teach, mentor, and inspire.
To our **preceptors** who open their practices, share their knowledge, and help shape the next generation of PAs.

And to our **alumni** who carry the K-State name and Wildcat pride into communities across the country.

You are an important part of the K-State PA family, and we are grateful for all you do for our students, our patients, and our profession.

Here’s to the PAs who lead with knowledge, serve with compassion, and continue to **go beyond** every day.

💜 **Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.**
🐾 **Happy PA Week from the K-State PA Program!**

We are so thankful for Michelle Palmer and the time she generously gives to our K-State PA students each year! 💜

Yesterday was all about surgical scrubbing-in and the OR sterile field with Michelle Palmer, CSPDT, Supervisor of Sterile Processing, OR Materials & Robotic Coordinator at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

Our students had the opportunity to learn from Michelle’s incredible knowledge, experience, and expertise in the operating room. Her willingness to share her skills and real-world perspective gives our students such a valuable hands-on learning experience as they prepare for their careers in healthcare.

Thank you, Michelle, for investing in our students and helping make this annual experience so meaningful! We truly appreciate you! 🩺💜

A little PA Week warm-up in Washington, D.C.!

PA Week is coming up October 6–12, but we’re getting an early start on the celebration!

Clinical Director Christine Hazlett represented the K-State PA Program on Capitol Hill, joining PA colleagues, students, and advocates from Kansas to celebrate the profession and advocate for the future of PAs.

📸 Pictured with:
Beth Nothern, KAPA President
Steve Lewis and Hillary Lewis, KAPA members
Jacey Arnett, WSU second-year PA student
Derek Schmidt, U.S. Representative from Kansas

From Kansas to D.C., it’s always a great time to show some PA pride!

We may be a little early for PA Week, but when it comes to celebrating PAs, we’re not waiting for October 6! 🎉

Class of 2028: Caring Beyond the Classroom

Our Class of 2028 is proud to support the NPH USA Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping provide education, healthcare, and stability to communities in need.

Recently, our cohort collected and donated supplies including crayons, toys, and personal hygiene items to a community in Peru connected with NPH. Thanks to a direct connection within our cohort, the donated items were transported with a foundation volunteer and delivered to the community in mid-to-late August.

For several weeks, our students came together to collect items and make a meaningful contribution to children and families thousands of miles away. This effort is just one example of the Class of 2028’s commitment to service and to making a difference beyond the walls of the classroom.

Looking ahead, our cohort hopes to continue raising support for NPH and similar communities, with a particular focus on improving access to healthcare.

We are proud of our students for recognizing that being a healthcare professional means more than caring for patients—it means finding ways to serve communities wherever the need exists.
