POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Today I attempted to do the entire Lenape Trail—a 36 mile trail maintained by @nynjtc that connects 18 parks and 11 towns in Essex County. Ever since I moved to Essex County five years ago and learned of its existence, I wanted to do it. My friend @john.cozz of @cozzcoffee organized a group hike of about 20 of us today and I’m proud that I did nearly 20 miles of the trail! I had to stop after our lunch break at Verona Park because I’m worried I pulled something/almost pulled something in one of my legs and I didn’t think it would be a good idea to hobble my way through another 16 miles.

The trail is a really unique one. You’ll go through suburban parks, deep into the woods, up scenic overlooks, and along some sidewalks too. I’d done a few stretches of it before, but it was really cool experiencing it like this. The company was also a big part of why this was so much fun. I knew a few people who were there today, and really enjoyed talking to everyone. I feel like anyone who saw John’s post and was like ā€œI would love to give up a Sunday and attempt an almost 40 mile hikeā€ would have to be someone with some interesting stories šŸ˜‚ I didn’t get everyone’s IG so let me know if you were also there!

Alex and I made these ribbons for everyone, because it’s fun to celebrate everything, and it turns out the websites that make these for horse shows and field days and county fairs just let you design and buy them for anything šŸ˜‚

I’m looking forward to finishing the rest of the trail another day, and I’m cheering you on if you attempt any part of it! taken in Essex County by @ksulphoto

This weekend was @njbookstorecrawl, an event I started planning in earnest back in January but had been thinking about for a lot longer. I’d heard about similar events in other cities and thought it would be cool if someone did that for New Jersey.

It turns out a lot of other people also thought it would be cool—literal thousands of people participated in this. The numbers are still coming in, but it’s unbelievable. I’m not used to doing anything that reaches this kind of level of popularity, especially this quickly.

A few months ago I finally decided to take steps to work on this event because I wanted to spend my time figuring out a way to make a very specific corner of the world a little brighter. This weekend, seeing people go out into their communities, meet other people, engage with knowledgeable booksellers instead of clicking ā€œadd to cart,ā€ and support our state’s vibrant local businesses made me feel like, maybe it’s not so bad here. by @ksulphoto

I wasn’t expecting to have this in my possession for at least another month, but sometimes supply chain weirdness causes good things to happen. #NewJerseyFanClub has reached its final form, after spending time as a vague thought, a proposal, a series of spreadsheets, thousands of emails, image files, and Google docs. It’s surreal and exciting and I can’t wait for you to see it. taken in New Jersey by @ksulphoto

I’m thrilled to share that I contributed a piece of writing to the new issue of @weirdnjinsta! An absolute dream byline for me. I was trying to pinpoint how I initially got into the magazine and realized I can’t even remember—it just feels like something that’s always been there. I have every single issue. Weird NJ taught me that the place I came from contained endless stories, that you could make something yourself and put it out into the world, and that even the most niche things can form a community. It has obviously informed a lot of my projects. It is remarkable that the publication has been doing its thing, in print, for as long as it has, and that even after decades of publishing, there is still so much to share. Weird NJ documents and preserves in its pages the kind of history that is too often lost forever.

For my piece for this issue, I went in search of ā€œthe weirdest thingā€ in a library collection, and I decided to ask the archivists at the Newark Public Library, because they have an amazing New Jersey history collection. When I reached out to @52gatos, she immediately told me she could pull the collection’s weirdest item, a death mask of baseball player and US government spy Moe Berg, for me to come look at. I really enjoyed getting to research this story and so happy to share it in the pages of my favorite magazine.

Thank you to Mark, Mark, and @chrisgeth for the opportunity! And thank you @52gatos for connecting me to this story and for all of the information.

I hope you’ll pick up a copy and enjoy! taken in Newark Public Library by @ksulphoto

Scenes from the most sacred days of September—cut a little short this year because I need days off for another trip. But I still had the nicest time at my favorite place at the end of t̶h̶e̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶l̶d̶ New Jersey. taken in Cape May Point, New Jersey by @ksulphoto

Posting a very old throwback photo I took (and posted on here) way back in 2013, because I’m pleased to share that it’s part of one of the two pieces I will have in @art629gallery ā€˜s Greetings from Asbury Park show that opens next week. If you’re in the AP area, I’d love to see you at the opening, which will be on Friday, September 18 from 5-9!

Swipe to see my two pieces that will be in the show. The first is a collage of digital photos I took between 2013 and 2015 on days with similar weather. The second is black and white film I shot in 2006 for a high school photography assignment.

I am looking forward to doing something photography-related for the first time in many, many years. It’s been a long time since I have called myself a photographer, but having these pieces accepted was very validating. It also forced me to find a local photo lab for the first time in a long time, so now I have a spot to get future rolls of film developed šŸ˜Ž taken in Asbury Park, New Jersey by @ksulphoto

Really loved exploring Monhegan Island, which can reasonably be described as ā€œlike Widow’s Bay but real,ā€ and I can confirm it’s definitely not cursed šŸ˜Ž taken in Monhegan, Maine by @ksulphoto

I had plans in Lambertville on Saturday and Princeton today, so decided to save myself a lot of annoying driving back and forth this weekend and spent the night in Princeton. Despite how these pictures look (I have patience), the university library exhibit was packed, as was the art museum, and it was so nice seeing so many people enjoying New Jersey’s cultural treasures! taken in Princeton, New Jersey by @ksulphoto

It’s almost time for @njbookstorecrawl 2026–our second year! Come out and support some of New Jersey’s independent bookstores from June 5-7.

I love organizing an event that gets people out into their communities, talking to strangers, and engaging with literacy. Buying books from people who live in our state, not from people who are fine with selling ā€œbooksā€ generated by AI. Discovering a new read because a cover catches their eye, or because a bookseller or fellow crawler recommends it—not because a sales algorithm pushed it on them.

Thanks as always to @helloartdesign for the most eye-catching branding (and designing this year’s prize!), and to @rutgersupress for their support with getting the guides to the stores and for their advertising efforts. I’m also excited to work with some great local businesses (tagged on the last slide) to bring some fun events to life that weekend that will give us more opportunities to be in community with other readers. taken in New Jersey by @ksulphoto
