an ode to mirror selfies in my first ever apartment 🌟

i haven’t really loved living in this apartment. i think these walls have seen me alone, sick, and/or crying more than any other place i’ve lived in (proportionally, of course). i’ve battled windowsill black mold here. i’ve battled cockroaches that pest control gaslit me into thinking weren’t cockroaches (they were, i promise). i had a $200 water bill here because of a leak and never really got reimbursed as much as i should have. i learned how expensive it is to keep 600 sqft of space warm in the winter. i walked meg here, around my boring, singular block five times just to get her a quality walk of 30 minutes.

in a month, i move across town to a much bigger, nicer, and better located apartment. (thank god.)

but i did love the mirror selfies i took here. most of them are taken right before i *left* the house, on my way to a hike, dinner, readings, comedy shows, class, the grocery store. they remind me of those few moments i took to pause when i thought i looked pretty, when i felt good, when i was getting away from my isolating, slightly claustrophobic apartment. and if there’s one good thing this apartment did for me, it’s give me a perfect place for all my mirror photoshoots. a corner where i could be my own paparazzi. entire walls of photos in my camera roll that remind me of cute outfits and days i spent outside.
