Yesterday the most incredible thing happened. I got to adopt my baby child.

Since I was very young I knew without a doubt I would adopt, it was more like this strange peace that said no to making a child of my own and a strong yes to loving children who were already here on this earth and needed love.

The scenario played out in my mind as I have grown up what would it look like, how would this happen.. and even in my wildest dreams could I imagine it looking like this..

Thats how life works... You have a peace and a knowing deep in your heart and trust it to work out and here we are watching it unfold in real time

What I didn't account for was the love I would receive in return.. what I didn't account for was being so radically accepted for being myself. Going from a household of 1 to 5 overnight and then 6 when luke finally got to join us.

What I never could have accounted for was all.of the home made ice cream, cookies, icing.. all of the dance parties and family movies.. making multiple versions of the same dinners to accommodate food preferences..

What I couldnt see was kids who encourage and accept all of my weirdness and quirks and how this family would become the safest space for all of us to exist.. in the quirky, beautiful, muchness that it is.

And I wanna take a moment to honor someone that truly deserves some credit here because I was caught me off guard when our attorney asked me in front of the judge who I am.. I said I am mom.. she said step mom? I said oh yes that is correct.

25 years ago a man walk into our life and showed my brother and I unconditional, unwavering love. It was a peaceful, safe, caring love like I never had experienced.. This man showed me how someone can meet big children and love them as if they were his own. I dropped the word 'step' from his name a long time ago. I will forever be grateful to the man who loved me relentlessly from day one. He showed me it was possible.

I also want to thank our friends and family who showed up yesterday. It truly meant everything to us.
