PEOPLE I ADMIRE IN THE BIZ: Kuba Franczyk of Uncover Models in Warsaw

I love Kuba because he cares from a beautiful mix of kind love + tough love + he believes in what I truly believe in: Rebranding. Kuba is always rebranding – his agency, the models he represents, as well as himself. And he never gives up.

1992, Kuba grew up in Węgorzewo, a small city in Poland. “It’s full of beautiful forests + lakes. It was an amazing time.” His mom was a physical ed teacher + his dad a professional soldier, “As a kid, I was laughing that my dad is a special agent + in the end it was the truth.”
“I loved running + volleyball, I was painting + drawing.” He snowboarded, + skied – where an accident left an ACL injury that still troubles him. But he still runs 10–12 km 3-4x a week. “It’s good to clear your mind after work.”

At 15, Kuba realized he was gay. He laughed, “Everyone knew I was gay before I knew. I had longer hair, super smooth face like a little girl. I had the support of my closest friends, so it was really amazing.” His hometown was less kind, “Everyone was saying, ‘Oh my god, he’s gay, horrible.” Even moving to Warsaw at 16, “People on the street were exactly the same. It was not easy for a young guy.”

“I moved to Warsaw by myself without my parents” where he enrolled in a rigorous French school. He became close friends with Ola Rudnicka, who went on to become one of Poland’s supermodels. He accompanied her to agency meetings.

Kuba was a natural student with a near-photographic memory, “Everyone knows that I remember every single password, logins, everything.” He was diagnosed with dyslexia, “With my great memory I don’t make mistakes.”

At university, Kuba wanted to study architecture, but years of drawing damaged his wrist. “They put me in plaster for 3 months.” He went on scholarship for advertising + management. “Facebook was just created.” He added event organization + later pursued psychology while working full-time.
