TRUMPETS, my third year film at CalArts, is now on YouTube! Link in my bio!

I want to say thank you to all my friends, teachers, and family who made this film possible. A lot of sleepless nights were put into this, but looking back I wouldn’t have spent a single day of the last 3 months any differently. Huge thanks to @e._.farm for composing an amazing score and @anantshah__ for doing some beautiful South Asian percussion for the film. Also thank you to @jeeva.audio for the amazing sound design.

Also a huge thanks to @jsn_illust and @gioedwrds for additional animation help, as well as @ant1.draws @himarichatani and @shrewkid for providing some beautiful additional background paintings. Thank you @eunso0o as well for your amazing compositing help. Could not have gotten over the finish line without you all.

I also hope that all the Tamilians out there enjoy a film in a familiar tounge. :) Thank you to Ashanti, Sanjeevan,
and Aunty Jo for providing your wonderful voice acting.

Hi everyone!

I’m happy to share that I will be joining Pixar this summer as a character animation intern! I’m so excited and grateful for this opportunity- thank you Peggy especially for encouraging me through all these years to keep applying! I couldn’t have gotten here without the support of my parents, teachers and friends, and if anyone is in the Bay Area this summer, let’s please hang out!

My Second Year Film at CalArts, The Princess is Missing! is now out on YouTube! Link in Bio!

Making this film was by far one of the hardest things I have ever done, but I’m super happy with how it turned out. There are so many people to thank, but I want to start off with those who worked on the music, none of which would have been possible without @e._.farm, who composed and orchestrated the film, @anantshah__ who added the dash of Indian percussion, and mixed and sound designed for the film. Also want to thank @faridsaxo92 for the amazing saxophone solo, and @omkardhumal for the beautiful shehnai performance.

I also want to thank my film workshop and teacher @pinseymallard , who encouraged me every step of the way, all my friends who kept me company and made me laugh all along the way, and for my family, and especially for my mom, who this film is for, who would always be there to listen to me rant and rave between animating for god knows how long every day.

Some visual development stuff from my film! Almost all of the film was inspired by real places/people/dogs I know in Malaysia where I was born and my Mom’s family is from. Included photos of my aunts and uncle, my uncle’s dog Brandy, my grandmother with my Uncle Chandran and Aunty Anna, and my great-Thatha’s old house in Ipoh.

Gonna be posting some behind the scenes stuff from my film! This was by far the hardest shot to animate, it took me nearly a month in total. I was really trying to achieve a more naturalistic style of movement compared to the rest of the film, largely inspired by characters from Satyajit Ray’s Apu trilogy, and of course all the photos of my mom and her siblings when they were kids. My lip-sync assignment from Kat Kosmala’s class! Finally got around to coloring it! The design is by my dear friend @mymgal , I’ve loved this particular design of hers for so long and this seemed liked the perfect opportunity to animate it. Also big thanks to my Aunty Geetha from providing her voice.
