Indonesia’s MSME financing reached Rp1,948.72 trillion as of June 2026, according to the Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK). Yet 82.44% of that funding still came from banks, while the capital market accounted for just 0.06%. OJK also notes that the challenge goes beyond the availability of finance, with businesses still facing gaps in capacity, legality, financial records, market information, and access to supply chains. For Small Growing Businesses (SGBs), this points to a deeper question: capital exists, but are the structures, risk appetite, and financing pathways designed for the way these businesses actually grow?

At KUMPUL Connect for Change Summit 2026, the Executive Lab Forum “Who Absorbs the Risk? Designing Catalytic Capital Pathways for Indonesia’s SGBs”, in strategic partnership with Tribhuwana Advisory, will bring participants into facilitated small group discussions to examine where the financing bottleneck really sits. The forum will explore how risk should be shared between enterprises, investors, and public or philanthropic capital; when businesses should move from grants to concessional and commercial finance; and where instruments such as first loss capital, guarantees, insurance, revenue based finance, revolving funds, and local lenders can fit. Rather than asking enterprises alone to become more investment ready, the discussion asks how capital itself may need to be structured differently.

AI capability only becomes inclusive when people can actually access the skills, infrastructure, and support needed to use it. Across Asia-Pacific, the AI Opportunity Fund started as a US$15 million initiative and has already trained more than 300,000 workers through local organisations. Together with AIM ASEAN, the broader effort now aims to support 720,000 workers across Asia-Pacific and 100,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Southeast Asia by 2027. In Indonesia, the challenge is not simply to build more AI capacity, but to make sure that capacity reaches communities and can continue beyond a single programme cycle.

At KUMPUL Connect for Change Summit 2026, Sarita Kinanti, Program and Impact Director at KUMPUL Impact, will lead an Impact Talk with Ilan Asqolani, Head of Programme at ASEAN Foundation; Charlie Hartono, Director at AVPN; and Gidion Suranta B., Chief Cloud Officer at Lintasarta. Bringing together perspectives on community adoption, funding, skills, and sovereign AI infrastructure, the session will explore how these different layers can work together: how local partners help MSMEs move from AI awareness to practical adoption, how capital and training can sustain impact beyond pilot programmes, and how infrastructure and local AI ecosystems can expand access beyond major cities. The bigger question is how these efforts can become a lasting, community-led system rather than a collection of separate initiatives.

Rory Asyari, Dinesh Ganwani, Ben Soebiakto, and Rudy Franto Manik will look at who is still being left out of Indonesia’s inclusion journey, the barriers that remain, and the stories that often go unheard.
