Lamin, (@laminsahoo) 2019. From E.X.C.E.L.L.E.N.C.E.

One of the things I love most about photography is returning to the archive. Sometimes, years later, you find an image you somehow didn’t see the first time.

This portrait was never part of my final edit. A different photograph of Lamin made it into the series. In fact, this was one of the first few frames we made that day.

Looking at it now, seven years later, it stops me.

Maybe the photograph hasn’t changed, but I have. The way I look at images has changed; what I respond to, what I notice, what I allow an image to say without needing to explain itself.

There is something exciting about discovering something new in work you thought you already knew. Today, this portrait resonates with me in a way it didn’t in 2019.

Sometimes the archive is not really about looking back. It is about seeing again.

And I miss the team:
