Three hours before setting up this self-portrait, I ran 26.2 miles through North Carolinas streets. Two months before running those miles, I thought heavily about the surrounding land I’d be running on. Today, I share art, from an ongoing collaboration with my disabled friend, who’s next door to the state that birthed Cyrus Carmack-Belton, whose last run was in 2023.

Photo set titled “Structure and Surprise.” || When I photograph Sala, I sometimes get so caught up in composition, that I overlook the most exciting part, that I’m inside the life I’m documenting.

I’ll be your photographer, but I’ll also be your subject. And I will not disappear.
