• although part of an edition of 5, every single _salome_ is unique. caro suerkemper salome 2021, fired clay, partially engobed, porcelain approx. 27 x 18 x 7 cm before us lies a disconcerting scene. a woman – entirely devoid of colour, resembling a nocturnal dream image – lies on a black-and-white floor, the sort frequently found in palaces and churches since the renaissance. her head rests on a porcelain plate, which is also reminiscent of a halo. the work is made of grey clay, which has been fired and partially engobed. each piece has been hand-shaped, giving every figure a unique appearance. the interpretation of the figure’s state of mind remains entirely open. is it grace, agony or injury? caro suerkemper leaves this question open. we do, however, receive a clue from the title _salome_. this refers to the legend of salome, who demanded that king herod present her with the head of john the baptist on a platter. in our scene, the reversal of the roles of perpetrator and victim, or of illusion and vision, remains open to interpretation. jürg nyffeler, edition 5 erstfeld @jurgnyffeler @carosuerkemper • #carosuerkemper #art #modernsculpture #contemporaryceramics #contemporaryart by @kunstforumsolothurn

_landschaft_ 2020 - 2025, huile sur papier 20,8 x 29,6 cm chacune @axnels • #annnelson #art #painting #landscapes #contemporaryart by @kunstforumsolothurn
