The last time I spoke to Andrew @daddysavage210, the last thing he said to me was “cheers.”
I don’t think I’ll ever hear that word the same way again.
He was unapologetically himself. Savage, funny, honest, impossible to edit, and never interested in making himself smaller just to make other people comfortable. I loved that about him. I loved him.
I wish I had known that conversation would be our last. I wish I had known to stay a little longer.
So this poem is for you, Andrew.
For the things you said, the things you made us laugh at, the space you took up exactly as you were, and the space that feels painfully different without you in it.
Cheers, my friend.

Two and a half years ago, I made a deal with a future version of myself I hadn’t met yet. She asked me to trust her through the exhaustion, the self-doubt, the tears, the exams, and every moment I wanted to convince myself I wasn’t enough. Turns out she was right. Another degree, an NCLEX later, and somehow every hard day became part of the proof. I get to call myself a Registered Nurse. What a beautifully strange thing—to spend years learning how to care for others, only to realize the first patient I never gave up on was myself.

To my family, and to the friends who kept reminding me to laugh when I forgot how, thank you for carrying pieces of this dream with me. Here’s to new chapters, steady hands, soft hearts, curious minds, and the privilege of meeting people on some of the most important days of their lives. Let’s do some good. 🤍. Sometimes the most profound thing isn’t becoming something new, it’s noticing what’s already happening inside you. Your body is performing a miracle right now without asking for credit. There’s a kind of peace in realizing you don’t have to force existence, it’s already carrying you. Maybe awareness itself is the gift we keep overlooking.

The real glow up was realizing I was never too much, I was just under-loved by myself. So I stopped bullying the old versions of me and started bringing them with me, cute outfit included. The world catches up when you finally stop abandoning yourself.
