This is a scaredy cat's photo blog on learning to get a close look at tiny creatures. Not quite a photographer yet, just very curious.

Another great subject I did not take good photos of. Leaf katydids. I thought it was a grasshopper.

Quite a large chap, about 6-7 cms, not really LARGE large exactly lol, but large for my skills. I had gotten somewhat used to shooting extremely tiny things and I was genuinely just stuck trying to frame this guy. I just couldn't frame it in a way I liked and it was just a big mess. Lots of photos that are just incredibly boring to look at. I am not happy with these either but it's ok. Practice is practice.

On a completely separate note, what katy did was one of my absolute favorite books growing up.I just loved her. The handle lesson is something I remember all the time, because my natural tendency is to go for the rough one but a little voice often reminds me that there is a smooth one. IFYKYK.

And I longed to find out what a katydid was for years and years and years and then somewhere along the way I had forgotten about it. Finally realizing that this is in fact a katydid, it makes me feel like something ❤ taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

A jumping spider. Isn't it so cute. It was a juvenile, a baby and it was so intent on climbing up it barely noticed me. I don't know why, I have just this photo of this girl. I wish I had more, she's so cute. taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

Another creature I am fascinated by, but wasn't able to take a good photo of, 😭
Look at those antler like arms! Soo cool! As always in the aporathe paramb. I couldn't' see it's face 😭
As per inaturalist it's an eretmocera impactella but i beg to differ, aara paranje impactillannu? Lol. That's the first moose moth i have seen, made plenty of impact on me. taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

Metallic blue jumper, the same six legged chap from few posts back.

Doesn't this pose remind you of the lookout boys on a pirate ship, doing their duty diligently on the crows nest, a way up in the air on the mast, looking somewhere far far away to spot the dangers ahead?
I love this photo ❤ one of my favorites so far taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

Mr blue legged philosopher from a few posts back. Aren't the legs so cool!

This is a juvenile of a rufous-legged grasshopper, Xenocatantops humilis. It wasn't too big, but not the smallest grasshopper I saw that day. taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

Metallic blue jumper

The cutest, most curious spider of my acquaintance. He only has 6 legs but he loved posing for me. Jumped onto my lens and gave me a heart attack. I have quite a few photos of this guy. taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

(Part 2) This demonic looking fellow is actually smaller in size than the nail on my little finger. Yup. That tiny.
It's called the egg plant horned plant hopper. The horns are to mimic thorns on the plant so that the predators stay away. One of my favorite subjects from the trip home in may. There will be a few more shots of this chap coming up.

This is a single shot. I did however try to practice my manual focus stacking techniques on these guys, however I don't think it's worked out, hopefully next time.

Also taken stretching into the next paramb 😂
(paramb means the a plot of land where things can be grown if needed or a house build etc, this one is next to my parents place) taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

A weevil, apparently a true weevil. This guy was pretty big as far as weevils go. I had only ever seen tiny ones before this. But just because he's big doesn't mean he isn't fast. Disappeared on me in a second 😭 I obviously should have had useda larger aperture for this one, I really feel like I missed an opportunity. Hopefully I'll instinctively fix things like this with more practice. taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

Flew away before I could take more pics. I am not sure what this creature is, seems to be a genus of adoxomyia, which are a genus of soldier flies. Since we compost at my parents place, that seems likely.

Very beautiful dark blue eyes & gorgeous metallic body, however my skills are sooo ridiculously under developed when it comes to naturally gorgeous looking creatures like this. I think without the flash, if I got this guy in the sunlight , i might have been able to do half the job. taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

Definitely an ant mimic spider but this is the first one I have seen that's purely black in color. I have now had the opportunity to see Red weaver ant mimic spiders quite a few times, but never this particular version. Unfortunately, I couldn't get more shots. Not happy with the shot but I think it's a cool creature and I wanted to share. taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

It's a long legged fly, less than a centimeter in length. I am not able to figure out the exact name but most likely from the chryososomatini tribe. It's a garden predator, as you can see. They are apparently great for natural pest control. They are fast and move very very quickly, often much faster than my eyes, hands and definitely much faster than me trying to find it through manual focus.

I was only able to get a picture as it had stopped for a minute to eat.
I must be a 90s wedding photographer in spirit, I keep photographing these creatures when they are just trying to eat.

The third picture I accidentally focused on the the eye of the paavam thing it's actually eating 😶. I found it quite morbid but also that second creature is incredible tiny. I am truly shocked that my camera picked up the eyes. taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro

Another very villainous looking fellow. Most likely a plant hopper. I was trying to take a picture of a white jumping spider, but saw this guy. He was standing absolutely still, so I decided to chase the spider, but then it started raining heavily and ya, I got no other photos of this guy.

I am not happy with the photo, but this was such a strange looking creature I thought I'll post anyway. taken in Maradu,Kochi by @kuttymacro
