Still trying to wrap my mind around this…

A year ago, I lost my biological father, and now my stepfather. Both battled dementia, which makes these losses even harder to process.

This photo was taken just 5 years ago. I’m standing beside the two men I could always lean on… and now they’re both gone, back-to-back. It just doesn’t feel real. 💔

Forever grateful for the love, strength, and guidance you both gave me. 🕊️🕊️

It’s been a year since you’ve been gone Dad, and not a day has passed that I haven’t thought about you.

You weren’t just an incredible father… you were our best friend. You were our biggest supporter, our loudest cheerleader, and the one who believed in your sons no matter what. The pride you had in us was undeniable, and because you believed in us, we learned to believe in ourselves.

Thank you for teaching us about life, integrity, hard work, and how to treat people. We definitely know how blessed we were to have a father like you. Not everyone gets to experience that kind of unconditional love.

You witnessed me come into this world, and I was blessed to witness you peacefully transition from it. As painful as that moment was, it was one of the greatest honors of my life.

I miss your laugh, your wisdom, and our conversations. Some days the memories make me smile. Other days, the pain feels just as heavy as it did a year ago. They say time heals all wounds, but I’ve learned that’s not always true. Time may teach you how to live with the loss, but it never heals the wound of losing someone you love this deeply.

Losing you changed my life forever, but your love, your lessons, and your legacy continue to guide me every day.

I love you Dad. I miss you more than words can ever express.

I’ve been hearing all these amazing stories about Eric, and honestly, none of it surprises me. So I wanted to share one of my own.

Me and Ewash got cool because I’d see him at my job three to five days a week over the last few years. From day one, I liked his energy. He always had a smile on his face, always spoke, and always had something positive to say. You could just tell he had a good heart.

As we got to know each other, I realized we had a lot in common. We were both kids originally from Compton, we both loved to travel and explore the world, and we were always talking about different places, new experiences, and just enjoying life. But we also shared something much deeper… we both lost our dads last year. That’s a pain that creates a bond not everyone can understand.

I’ll never forget how, even while carrying the weight of losing his own father, Eric always found the right words to encourage me to stay strong. That always stuck with me. It showed me the kind of man he was. Most people are trying to make sense of their own pain, but Eric was still checking on others and making sure they were okay. That was just who he was. He was a rare breed.

Listening to everyone share their stories today, I realize we all experienced that same kindness in different ways. Eric had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and uplifted. He poured back into his community, led with love, and left a lasting impact on so many lives.

You’re going to be missed by so many people, my Brutha. Rest easy. I pray you and your dad are reunited again, watching over all of us. Until we meet again, 🙏🏾👑🕊️ @thanksuglygod_bbe … #RIP to the young lady that lost her life as well. by @kwalitykwe

I’ve realized that the best gifts aren’t meant to sit on a shelf… they’re meant to be experienced.

This unforgettable night with some of our favorite people was the perfect grand finale to my birthday weekend. Laughter, music, incredible company, and a reminder that life’s richest moments are the ones we get to share.

Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday and made this weekend so special. These are the memories I’ll carry forever. ❤️
