August has been very honest with me. Choosing to be bicoastal, moving to New York blues, people coming and going, growing pains, grieving Pooky, trying to find a place to settle my wobbly heart, reminding myself what it’s all for… it’s a lot to occupy one person’s mental. There will be new things to stress me out in September, to be sure, but I think also plenty to love. I always wanna choose giving and embodying love. ❤️‍🔥 Thanks to everyone who’s been gracious with me. Enjoy this photo dump of me today! It’s my birthday and I’ve been reflecting on my relationship with ambition. Lately I’ve been thinking it’s like a false god: the more I pushed, the more I felt rushed by something that should never define me or you or anyone. What we choose to do, the goals we set for ourselves, they’re precious because they come from our desire to improve ourselves, not by how much we are able to do. I’m really over feeding an ego that was borne out of insecurity when I was very young. After traveling a lot in May, I took note of who and what reminded me of that feeling to do more, to optimize, to speak poorly of those who don’t. It came up a lot, and it’s a regrettable part of our hustle culture, because it’s such a bastardized attempt at meaning making of our lives. So I’m chasing the good feeling that comes when I think I’m getting close to a breakthrough with my writing, or whatever else it is that feels worth doing right now. The good feeling that comes when you hug a friend who cares about you whether you’re doing well or not, and I feel the same for them. I think that’s the best gift I can give myself. Thank you to the friends in my life (shoutout to the Bay Area friends who came to my bday picnic yesterday; those that couldn’t, you were missed)! Down!…Strike?” imagines service dogs going on strike in an attempt to unionize! This short film is very cute, but ultimately deepens our appreciation for service dogs, and all that they do for disabled citizens. As @broadwaybopo, I was involved in decision-making concerning authentic casting and body diversity in the illustrations of characters.
