POSTS STORIES REELS

Hi, I’m Kweighbaye!

I’m a Liberian-American artist and entrepreneur working in film and entertainment.

I’m the founder of the @bushwickfilmfest, entering its 19th year in 2026. For nearly two decades, I’ve created spaces where filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences connect and helped raise funding for dozens of arts and cultural organizations across Brooklyn.

Now based in Los Angeles, I write and produce character-driven films and series through my production company, Starlit Pictures, often in collaboration with Bushwick Film Festival alumni. I also perform in my own original projects.

I speak at institutions, organizations, and brands about filmmaking, creativity, leadership, entrepreneurship, and the journey of building something from scratch.

If you’re interested in films and what it actually takes to build a creative career, you’re in the right place.

Follow along for project updates, behind-the-scenes, and insight into building a creative career in film and entertainment.

If ya don’t know now you know! 😎

As some of you may know I made the move to #LA to pursue my passion for #film producing and writing. The #LA film scene is bursting with #creativity and #energy, and I look forward to collaborating with new and talented folks.

Currently, I’m in production for one feature doc (check my stories!), about to shop around my feature film script (thanks to all who gave feedback!) and I’ve been reading TONS of scripts to see if I can be of service to the right project.

Send me your stories! Priority goes to @bushwickfilmfest filmmakers duh! ☺️❤️

If you are looking to attach a producer/writer to your existing project hit me up! (P.s in this case already funded please cus I’m already fundraising for other tings 😅)

The opportunity to work alongside some of the most talented and creative minds in the industry is super exciting and I can’t wait to bring stories that I am deeply passionate about to the big screen.

It’s been an exciting adventure with a few #plotwist 🤪, and I’m excited to share more of my experience with all of you via #Patreon. Click the link in my bio to join the journey and stay tuned for updates Thanks for your support! 🎥🌴

Hey Fam! The 16th Annual @bushwickfilmfest is here Oct 25-29! 🎉🤩

Thanks to our PR team @bigpicturemedia, Just wrapped a successful promo tour with @ny1 , @news12bk and @pix11news (with very minor regrets lol). And of course The Bushwick Community Board to spread the word.

This year, as we celebrate our sweet 16, we want to remind everyone that transformative moments can happen at any age. Our carefully selected films highlight narratives of change, self-discovery, and embracing new phases of life. ✨

The festivities kick off with an opening night pink carpet event at Brooklyn Borough Hall, sponsored by #Spectrum, and featuring specialty cocktails by @johnniewalker🍹. Then we’ll be screening at @williamsburgcinemas showcasing over 125+ films from Brooklyn and around the world. Sunday is our movie industry conference presented by @beelectricstudio Studios and @broadwaystages Conversations include “Film and AI: The Next Chapter” and “Strike: Unraveling the economics of the film industry.” where we’ll explore sustainable solutions for everyone involved. We close with an awards ceremony!

It’s going to be super fun and engaging. Get your tix ASAP because many screenings are already sold out! Whoo ya!

You can use the code BUSHWICK20 for 20% off films.

Can’t wait to see you there! 🥳

Thanks to @feliciagrahambeauty_ for the incredible make up! 💄💋

It’s #JKDAY5K !!

Walked 3.1 miles today in your honor, cousin! ❤️

Johnette believed in me, prayed over me, encouraged me, and always made me feel like I could do anything. And Lord, was she FUNNY! 😂 She had a way of making you laugh and giving you the side eye while reminding you how loved you were.

It’s still hard to believe you’re gone. I miss your laughter, your love, your prayers, and just knowing you were here.

You spent so much of your life showing up for others. Seeing everyone continue to show up for you and keep your legacy alive is so beautiful. It’s such a powerful reminder of how many lives you touched and how deeply you are loved.

Love you forever, cousin ❤️

Thank you to @sincerely_tan_too @fit_lib_chick for creating this day to remember.

My first NYU Alumni Weekend! 💜

It’s funny how perspective changes. When I was a student, I don’t think I fully realized how lucky I was to attend NYU. All these years later, I feel so much gratitude for the experience, the opportunities, and especially the people.

Loved reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, and even stopping by the gym where my basketball dream went and died 😭😩 but the gym was totally new so felt symbolic and healing lol

And @ccelyce, @shereendanielle, @yoaazo, and @tashorama were apparently too cool for the official Alumni Weekend festivities 😂 but since we’re all NYU alums and happened to hang out that weekend, I’m counting them too! Lol.

Also squeezed in a rare night out in Midtown with Christine to go to my first @marciecleary annual birthday party! 🥳 talk about #blackexcellence

I waited too long to register for the Violet Ball and missed you @suzzzzagram! 😭 Almost decided to crash it but realized im not in my 20s anymore LOL

So grateful for the friendships, experiences, and all the ways NYU has been part of my journey. 💜

Oh and Loved seeing @lostboysmusical on Broadway with fellow NYU alums! SOOO GOOD!! 👏🏽🎭 Shoutout to alumni @huntercarnold and Mindy Baiada on the producing team! 💜
