Zusammen mit @hallomarvin durfte ich in den letzten Monaten viele kalte und warme Nächte am Brüsseler Platz in Köln verbringen und den Wahnsinn fotografieren, der sich dort seit Start des Verweilverbots diesen Februar abgespielt hat. Währenddessen haben @juliakopatzki und @jonahlemm vor Ort mit Beteiligten gesprochen und einen ganz wunderbar komischen und gleichzeitig nachdenklichen Text geschrieben. Er rekonstruiert den mittlerweile 20 Jahre andauernden Konflikt zwischen Anwohnenden, Feiernden, Gastro-Szene und Büdchen rund um den Brüsseler Platz in all seinen teilweise irrsinnigen Facetten. Darunter: Eierwürfe, Todeswünsche, sich widersprechende Gerichtsurteile. Am Ende dreht sich alles um die Frage: Wem gehört eigentlich die Stadt? „Ein deutscher Platz“ – jetzt im neuen SPIEGEL. Online und am Kiosk.

7) Familie Reichenbach wohnt am Brüsseler Platz und gehört zu den Hauptklägern gegen die Lärmbelästigung
8) Herr Reichenbach notiert sich halbstündig die Dezibel-Messwerte, hier: 66,6
9) Markus Schulte hatte mit einigen anderen Anwohnenden gegen das Verweilverbot geklagt und Recht bekommen
10 und 11) Ordnungsamt schickt Feiernde weg
12) Lena Budke ist Anwohnerin und engagiert sich in der IG Brüsseler Platz. Sie versucht, zwischen allen Parteien zu schlichten
13) Vor „Le Kiosk“ treffen sich viele, die ab 22 Uhr vom Brüsseler Platz geschickt wurden
14) Die Reporterin und Reporter @juliakopatzki und @jonahlemm vom @spiegelmagazin

I made a book…

Over the past two and a half years, I’ve had the privilege of visiting Istanbul numerous times, spending nearly two months documenting the social contrasts on its streets and trying to capture the unique melancholy that pervades the city on the Bosphorus.

Today, I’m delighted to finally announce that my photo book “HÜZÜN” will be released on November 15th. You can pre-order it from today on hüzün.de or slide into my DMs.

Thanks to everyone who made this possible. Special thanks to my friends @gokhanarer, @murat.harmanlikli and @istanbulcandidstreet as well as @frank_duerrach and @fotoakademie_koeln , for curating and discussing my work with me repeatedly over these past two and a half years. It’s been a lot of work but a great experience, and the biggest photo project I’ve dedicated my time to so far.

I sincerely hope you’ll enjoy the book as much as I’ve enjoyed creating it. It’s now available for pre-order, with delivery starting after November 15th, and worldwide shipping.

What a weekend! Once again @lisbonstreet.photo brought together so many great photographers from all over the world, spending time together from breakfast until midnight at the brewery. I had such a good time, from having great conversations at the hotel bar to getting inspired by talks by @sabakhayr, @mattu1 and @nikoseconomopoulos . I’m very happy I was invited again to give portfolio reviews and a talk myself. Obrigado for having me, Lisbon, and thanks to everyone who was there. There are too many names to drop them all here, but I’m thankful to everyone I met, and especially to the team behind @lisbonstreet.photo for this outstanding festival!

Kevin Wolf is a Cologne-based photographer with over twelve years of experience working as an editor for major German broadcasters like ARD, WDR, and Deutschlandfunk. That background has sharpened his eye for narrative and emotional storytelling.

For Kevin, street photography is his “photographic DNA.” He shoots almost daily, whether in Cologne or abroad, driven by intuition and a desire to connect with people.

His most significant personal project, the photobook HÜZÜN, documents the social contrasts of Istanbul over two years. The title references the “collective melancholy” described by writer Orhan Pamuk, a mood that is as life-affirming as it is denying.
