happy college radio day! ✦

KWSB has been on air since 1968, and radio has changed a lot since then. Earlier this year, we made the move from traditional radio broadcasting to online-only streaming.

Now you can listen to the penguin on your phone or computer instead of tuning in through a radio dial. It’s a big change in how people listen to KWSB, and a new chapter for a station with a long history at Western. ✧

We’re grateful to everyone who has listened and been part of KWSB over the years.

KWSB The Penguin is back online! 🐧🎧✨

Earlier this year, KWSB made one of the biggest changes in our history by transitioning from traditional FM broadcasting to a fully online station.

While the way you listen has changed, our purpose has not. KWSB is still a place for student voices, diverse music, Western sports, and connection across our campus community. Moving online also gives listeners the freedom to tune in from anywhere. ⭐

We’ve spent the past few months building a new team, updating our programming, and preparing for this next chapter of KWSB.

✨ Coming soon: weekly DJ shows, Manager Pick Monday, DJ Spotlights, new music features, Western sports coverage, and more.

What if your next campus role actually sounds like something? 🎧

KWSB The Penguin is hiring for the 2026–2027 year, and we are looking for students who want to be part of what plays next! 🐧

With a library of over 5,000 vinyl records and CDs, this is more than just a station. It is a space where music, creativity, and campus culture come together ⭐️

Open roles and what you would do:

• Promotions and Outreach Director – Design posters, help plan events, and connect KWSB with campus and the Gunnison community

• Program Director – Help manage show schedules, support DJs, and keep the station running smoothly behind the scenes

• Music Director – Work directly with our record collection, organize music, and help shape what KWSB sounds like

• Sports Broadcasters – Call live games, create sports content, and be part of Western athletics coverage

No experience is needed. Just bring interest and a willingness to learn, and we will teach you the rest! 📣

• 5–10 hours per week
• Pay starts at $16/hour (DOE)
