winter recap ft. ceramics side quest

felt so good to come back to ceramics after some time off and find creative connection between working with clay and baking. the flow state, the ideation and experimentation, the sensory input → decision making process… the two practices have informed each other in so many ways and gave me a winter hibernation full of recursive creation by @kyklos.kitchen

first time making croissants, kinda nervous 😓

rye croissants, some with lap cheong rolled like pain au chocolat

been avoiding making these out of fear of spending an entire weekend on something that feels like it’s bound to fail in a home kitchen, but glad I went for it and approached it as a learning experience. the moisture and fat in the lap cheong messed with the structure and my shaping needs work, but I learned a lot and I think that’s the whole point :) by @kyklos.kitchen

bake raffle for immigrant and refugee rights ❣️

hosting a baking raffle to raise money for @icirr_il , The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. each entry is $5, and you can enter as many times as you’d like. winner has their choice of any baked good they’d like; think a layered cake, batch of cinnamon rolls, a few pints of ice cream, a combo of the above… the choice is yours 😛

all proceeds go directly to ICIRR to support immigrant and refugee rights, and i’ll be matching $1 for every entry. a winner will be drawn October 24th, and baked goods can be redeemed any time in the next year. winner must live in or be willing to travel to chicago to redeem!

to think there was a time I didn’t like tomatoes 🙄

tomato tart with ssamjang mayo and furikake

hands down best thing i’ve made this summer, salty and crunchy and juicy and such a fun use of some of the tomatoes from the CSA. glad I got over the fear of laminating pastry cuz it was fine and this was yum by @kyklos.kitchen

5 spice oatmeal cookie sandwiches with hojicha marshmallow

awoke from a dream about making these the other night and had so much fun bringing it to life (and making a huge mess with the marshmallows) by @kyklos.kitchen

suns out buns out 😎

choux buns with chocolate craquelin, filled with banana cardamom crème diplomat and coffee caramel

arduous ass process for something with a 2 hour shelf life, but it was my first time making craquelin and it was so satisfying to sit down in front of the oven to watch these rise and crack by @kyklos.kitchen

pork, shrimp, ramp, and garlic chive dumplings 🥟

ate em with a pickled chili and fried shallot sauce to keep the allium vibe goin

went into factory mode and made like 80 of these to keep in the freezer and capture ramp season before it flew past by @kyklos.kitchen

brown butter carrot cake, cream cheese frosting, candied carrot roses for dave’s birthday :)

i’ll do anything @bravetart tells me to, especially stabilizing cream cheese frosting with a cooked custard… i’ll never go back by @kyklos.kitchen
