I’ve survived harder things than 21 kilometers.

I reminded myself of that more than once out there.

It was only my second race ever. A 21K sunset run at Vermosa, one I signed up for long before I felt ready. My longest training run had been 15 kilometers, so this was always going to humble me.

And it did. The route had far more hills than anything I’d prepared for. The heat felt like 42 degrees. At one point my heart was pounding harder than it ever has, and every part of me wanted to stop.

But I kept moving. Running has never really been about fitness for me. It’s where I go to breathe, to quiet my mind, to set down everything I carry. And every time it got unbearable, I remembered what I’ve already been through. Somehow, my legs kept going.

Then the sun started to set over the course. And for a few minutes, none of the pain mattered. Just me, the road, and a quiet kind of freedom.

I finished. Not fast, not pretty, but I finished. And I walked away with the reminder I keep having to relearn.

This is me. All of me.

A woman who chose to start again. Over and over again.

Most people only see the version of me that has it all together. They never saw the versions I had to leave behind to get here. The one who kept shrinking. The one who kept settling. The one who kept choosing what was easy instead of what was true.

I have been her. For a long time, I was her.

And those versions showed up in so many ways. The girl still figuring it out. The woman who had to unlearn everything she thought she knew. The one who outgrew who she used to be and never looked back.

I show up differently now. In the way I carry myself. In the way I dress. In the way I walk into a room.

Still growing. Still healing. Still navigating life. But more intentional than I have ever been. With the things I do, the things I say, the people I spend my time with.

This is a space for everyone who is still becoming. 🤍
