“Mommy’s patois is the language of conjuring, she conjures the poetics of her M(O)thers, and these poetics produce principles, principles for prosperous life, and life means breath in the body—pumping heart, animated by steadfast spirit.”

Writing this thesis was a labor of love for the incredible Black woman that made me, for the divine Black Mother that raised me. We’ve spent many long hours and late nights talking about what or who I want to be, but the answer always has been, and always will be, just like my Mommy. My last lap with my @harvardfoundation family could end with nothing better than A Family Affair. 🤍

From Harvard Commons to Harvard Yard to Harvard’s largest stage. So much history yet so many firsts, a revival and a reimagination all the same. A first ever fashion show. A historic food festival. And two incredible talents and humanitarians @im.angelabassett & @courtneybvance to celebrate.

I truly don’t think there are words to express how grateful I am to have spent the past few years of my college career on a program that I love, alongside so many people that I love, for a purpose that I believe in so deeply. The Cultural Rhythms Family Affair may have come to an end, but we must take the spirit of it with us through our time at Harvard and beyond.
