It’s full on SNOWING here in Seattle and the cold tends to make me feel extra stiff and achy. So extra stretching and hot baths have been my go to these days.

This series targets the glutes, core and spine - specifically the rectus abdominis and the erector spinae. These muscles work together to allow for better movement, control and stability of the whole body.

The first exercise when tapping the knee to the ground, think about pulling the knee up and even with the planted knee using your core and psoas. It’s a great one for lower back and hip stability!

The glutes are also hip stabilizing muscles and when they are strong it allows for greater ease and mobility in your everyday activities.

If you don’t have a block, all of the exercises can be done on all fours (or on forearms) except for the first one.

I hope you are taking good care and moving your body in a way you love. ❤️

▪️POSTERIOR CHAIN▪️

Posterior chain exercises target the muscles along the back of the body from the back of the head all the way down to the heels. ( glutes, hamstrings, calves, last, rhomboids, and erector spinae muscles) Strengthening these muscles may significantly improve posture and reduce your risk of injuries.

When you start this series, place your feet mat width apart or just wider than your hips, press the tops of your feet into the ground while pulling your knees up and away from the floor by engaging your quads, and squeeze your glutes. Keep drawing your shoulders away from your ears by pulling down (depressing) your lats.

Sometimes simple exercises are the most effective. Feel as though your back is gliding down a wall and your knees are tracking over second and third toes. Work at your body’s own external rotation! I’m moving through the different ranges of motion here.

1. Full range
2. Half range (keeping the work load in the legs)
3. Pulse
4. Static hold

I show in 4’s but try to do 8-12 reps each range of motion.
